Re: 311 123 gr copper jacket steel core reloading bullets.
There are alternatives to steel core bullets. I have had some good results with this bullet made specifically for the 7.62x54r. They are a bit pricey, but well worth the money. I have also used these in .303 British and it makes for a nice, comfortable to shoot load. The Lapua 7.62 S405 bullet is a...

Re: 311 123 gr copper jacket steel core reloading bullets.
I have used 123gr .311" PPU and Sellier & Bellot FMJ bullets in 54r using Vihtavuori N130 powder and they aren't too bad for short range use but for longer range they seemed too light for the barrels twist rate. I must admit I haven't shot them in a Mosin but I did in my SVD which has the 1...

Very Good job on that bolt. What are the markings on the right side of that receiver 8D1BAEF5-7D05-4902-A4FB-198CA817F8A5.jpeg Photo of receiver markings for Mr Steelbuttplate. Not sure what they all mean myself yet. UK proof marks, it was nitro-proofed at the London Proof House in 1990 ("LP&q...

Is it me or does it look like a bent bolt handle welded to a standard bolt body?.

Re: “Chernobyl” (TV Series) Mosin Sighting!!
Here in the UK sheep on 10,000 upland hill farms in the North of England, Wales and Cumbria in particular were irradiated and restrictions were placed on the movement of animals and before farmers could sell livestock, the animals' radiation levels had to be monitored. If they were above a certain l...

Re: Reloading for the Mosin Nagant
My '44 Izhevsk PU shoots best with 150gr .311" PPU SPBT bullets with Ramshot Big Game behind them, cases are PPU. Incidentally the same load is also the most accurate in my SVD which is handy. It shoots to the same point of aim as Russian military light ball but with much better accuracy and con...

Re: Couple of questions...
I solved my creeping hand guard problem by using a very fine punch to knock out the barrel band retaining springs, then cleaned all the accumulated old muck off the back of them and out of the slots on the stock and then carefully refitted them back in the stock so the end with the pin is just flush...

Re: Sierra 303 cal. 150 grain bullet
I have never had much luck with Sierra bullets in the Mosin Nagant M91/30. A couple of my rifles really like the Hornady .312 diameter 174 Grain round nose (#3130). I have also used the Hornady #3131 174 Grain FMJ bullets with good result in both Mosin Nagants and 7.7x58 Jap Arisaka. I've found the...

Re: Polish m44 query
If it was me I have tried knocking down the price due to the bent bolt handle, I'd have offered £300 and gone from there. £400-£500 is about the going rate for a good M44 in the UK at the moment, I know of a mint Polish M44 for sale at the moment that is immaculate and that's up for £500. There are ...

Re: Polish m44 query
I'm going to say it's been altered, as far as I'm aware the Mosin carbines were never scoped in service so wouldn't need a turned down bolt. I have seen PU scoped M44's sold in the UK as "Russian Border Guard tower sniper rifles", these were put together (faked!) by a well known UK dealer ...

Re: Do I have a M91?
Am I right in thinking that as well as the sights and barrel bands being changed to 91/30 spec they also changed the handguard as well?. My ex-Dragoon is a 1926 Izhevsk..... _20181229_202309.JPG DSC_0094.JPG I think I'm right in saying there are also ex-Cossack rifles, but they are less common than ...

Worth noting that a few different countries produced black Type 2 AKM bayonets.

Re: Identification required on PU sniper please
Just to chime in regards to the "CB" it stands for "Снайперскоя Вентовка" which simply translates to sniper rifle. As far as I understand it was used in early production years so that the optics have their own separate serial lettering but most likely got dropped later in the wa...

Re: Identification required on PU sniper please
The Russian Proof House stamp on the bolt is how you can identify approx when it came in. That Klimovsk proof mark has been used for decades.I've seen early '70s Baikal shotguns etc with it on so it isn't a recent mark, certainly not in Europe anyway. But it is a recent mark on imported PU snipers....
