hunting with a mosin

Using m39 with 180 gr Sierra .311 pro hunters over 42.5 gr of 4064. Using my m27 I load this bullet with 40 gr of 4064 to obtain a proper 100 yd zero. Also the m27 shows signs of higher pressure with the same powder charge as the m39. Have not taken a deer with either yet, but did take a doe over th...

Re: Surplus 7.62x54r ID?

Marty, the .311 Sierra Pro Hunters are hard to beat. Surprising I have had good results from .308 Pro Hunters also in my M39. They really work well in my Enfields as well-and not too bad as game getters either - took this doe over the weekend with the 180 gr pro hunter http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.c...

No doubt-was hoping to benefit from other's experience with this model.

Re: Surplus 7.62x54r ID?

Sounds like handloading remains my best option for now because I am pretty "choosey" regarding accuracy. Thanks for the heads up on the sniper ammo entropy-I'll know what to keep an eye out for - I can be pretty resourceful when I know what I'm looking for By the way I received an m27 yest...

Re: Surplus 7.62x54r ID?

I don't think their price will be very attractive-but regardless if 4-6 MOA is to be expected I'm not interested. My experience is mostly with Mausers. M75 yugo surplus rivals my handloads in 8x57. Likewise Greek HXP in 30-06 and 303 is quite good. Was hoping there was Mosin surplus of similar quali...

Re: Surplus 7.62x54r ID?

What kind of accuracy do you get from this ammo? I primarily handload and am getting some decent groups from my first Mosin - m39. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161026/512b6b9bfe3531719b46fc80e12e04cf.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161026/c502e9a3a578181bbeb571e08600bd6d.jpg If this stuff...

Re: Home on the range!! 200 yards or 182.88 meters

Sure wish it wasn't so far to go to a long range. There is on in Sacramento that goes out to 1000 yards. Of course the targets grow the farther out it goes. I really need to get to the 200 yard range more than once every year and a half. lol The range in my front yard only goes to 300 - oh well - c...

Re: Questions on my Czech K98k

The post war winter trigger guard pretty well cinches that it is post war build by Czechs for export - to whom? Israel? Syria? Who knows? Left over German parts used.

Marty

Re: Questions on my Czech K98k

Need a few more detailed photos? Does it have the post war Czech winter trigger guard? Looks like no crest on the receiver so I'm guessing it is s post war Czech rifle assembled for sale abroad. Left over Nazi parts were often utilized. Samco was selling these 5 years ago - does it have an import ma...

Re: New Members, Make your first post here!

After almost 5 years collecting mausers, enfields, mannlichers, and US vintage rifles I acquired my first Mosin - a 1944 VKT M39. Amazingly accurate and comfortable battle rifle. Should have looked at these sooner. As of this morning I have a 1932 Tikka M27 on the way.
