Re: School me on Gew 88
I have a 1890 Spandau Turkey rework. It has an all matching Czech bolt, a great bore, cleaning rod, detachable rear sling swivel and is marked with S, Z and a dot. The left side of the receiver is stamped "new steel" in German. I only shoot cast bullet loads in it and it shoots fine. Facto...

Enjoy each day 'cause it goes quickly. Nice birthday gift, by the way.

Re: Quick question about a Swedish M38
Yes, the cutdown model 96 is called the 96/38 and retains the straight bolt handle. The model 38 was built with a turned downed bolt handle, otherwise they are the same. Both great rifles.

While I like all my Finns, one being my M28 with NEW stock, all NEW receiver, bolt parts, etc., probably my favorite is my all original Remington M91 that has been Finned and has a SA stamped tractor belt sling on it. It has a great bore and retains most of it's bluing.

Re: Mosin with "D" Marking Question
Hey Kev,
Welcome aboard. You have a nice typical prewar refurbished 91/30. It does look like the firing pin needs adjusted as it should be pretty much flush with the back of the cocking piece. Bet this won't be your only Mosin but it's a good first one.

Hey Rightwinger, Good name as most of us on this site are probably "rightwingers" Welcome aboard but be forewarned, there's no turning back now! While I don't have nearly as many Mosins as some members, I'm always looking for another interesting one. The thing about milsurps, they're all i...

Re: personal favorite it your collection?
Wow! Some very nice historical rifles in this thread. Thanks for sharing! Mine would have to be a very decent Finned Remington M91 (1917) that is all matching with the serial numbers in five places, in it's original walnut stock and carrying a SA stamped tractor belt sling, but I also am fond of my ...

Re: Why we love Mosins
There is so much history with these rifles and other milsurps that there is always something new to learn. When I handle a non-refurbed MN such as my '39 Tula [SA] with blood pitting on the receiver ring I wonder......was it a poor dumb Russian conscript that shed that blood during the winter war, o...

Hey Husker,
NEW receiver, great bore and a stock that just shows wear and tear during WWII and is what it is. I think you did just fine.

Got some brass ones and some steel ones. I do happen to like the brass ones for the contrast but I wouldn't buy extra for them.

Re: new to MN's and barrel swelling ??
2kpounders, Does that name refer to 2000 lb bombs? Welcome to the forum. I have a 1941 Izhevsk that was obviously made after the German Invasion as it's quite rough on the outside and has the various shortcuts compared to a prewar rifle. The barrel has a "bulge" in the same area as yours b...
