1927 Izhevsk M1891/30

Post by Junk Yard Dog »

1927 Izhevsk M1891/30 ex dragoon infantry rifle. This is a post WWII refurbished rifle that was then reissued, most likely to Romania. The red shellac has been worn clear off it, has a stock carving, red paint on the buttplate, and a very good bore.

This is a youtube video, the link is in the first post. You may not be able to pick it up if you can't see video, or do not have a fast internet connection. My laptop will allow me to log into youtube, but will not show forum embedded links, hold on, I will put a link to youtube here

Yard Dog,

I just purchased my first Mosin today. Its a 1927 Izhevsk M1891/30 with the same markings from your video. The marking is not as deep as yours but the stock is in real good shape. I have two questions that you maybe able to answer for me.

1. How do you tell its an ex dragoon?

2. I paid $140 for it; is that a good or fair price for it?

Thanks

Nice!! An ex dragoon for a first one is cool. Back in 27 when they were making rifles they only made dragoons and maybe M91s. The 91/30 came along in 1930. So the dragoons are the same length so they updated them to the 91/30s specifications and then it became an ex dragoon or updated dragoon. :D

The price is in keeping with today's realities as far as prices have been going up for the hex receiver models. In 1927 there were only two long Mosins, the M1891, and the Dragoon, as yours was converted into a 91/30 then it was the dragoon rifle in 1927. Your stock looks different than mine because your rifle was refurbished after WW2 by the Soviets, they either replaced the stock entirely, or put a new coat of Shellac on it. My rifle's stock has no finish other than the lemon oil I treat the wood with.

both bayonets on the 41 and 43 Izhevsk mount right onto each other rifle, even when mixed up. but the 41 bayonet is serial numbered to the 1941 Izhevsk M91-30.. this first time of any refurbed where bayonet matched bolt, butt plate magazine, and barrel. this 41 is a keeper. after refurb it was issued to me by AIM Surplus. :pointleft:

Some of my 91/30's came from Aim some years ago, back then they didn't match the bayonets to the rifles. This 1927 came from Pat Burns, and had no bayonet, had no cleaning rod either, I added that. None of these issued 91/30's came to me with a cleaning rod, the rods had been long removed by the look of the sand packed into the rod channels in the stocks.
