Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Good morning
My name is James I’m in the UK. I have a strange deactivated mosin m38! And I’m hoping you guys can help. So here goes.
It’s an inch shorter than a normal m38
It has a full size rear sight like an m91/39
It’s not stamped m38/59
It’s been shorted and looks just like an m38
Did the Russians shorten any m91/30s to m38 spec?
It is dated 1942
Please enjoy the pictures

Used older M91/30 to do it.
More info and photos of the barrel shank.

Hi Darryl,
theres very little left on the barrel shank apart from a very faint (1942r) stamp. it has a few proof marks just like any mosin.
I cant understand why its an inch shorter than my M38 mosin i have. i will post a pic when im home from work.
Like i said it all looks correct and period i wonder if someone was having an off day in the factory or the barrel was damaged so needed to be cut shorter? the cleaning rod is also to long to fit my m38.

Hi, Dave in Canada here - thank you for the add to this Forum.
I'm new to Mosin Nagant's, so I hope to learn a lot here.
Once I get the hang of posting pics, I'll put up my M38 and M44 which I have a few questions about.
Looking forward to exchanging dialogue with some of you!

My name is Matt, I live in Florida, and this is my first post. Recently, while I was on a stay-cation, I was searching around on the Gunbroker for an old ak. I remember buying just that one and somehow I ended up with like 10 various milsurps and ak variants.
I am pretty new to the world of firearms especially those originating from outside of the US. I will be picking up my first two Mosins and a Mauser from my ffl later today.
This type of forum is right up my alley as I tend to read and research quite a bit when I become interested in a topic. I tend to study to find my answers to things rather than ask a lot of questions so you probably won't hear too much from me but I am glad to be here taking advantage of your research and knowledge of Mosins and the like. This forum is a really cool resource.

I'm Brad and I am a new member. I own two Mosin Nagant rifles (1944 Tula M44 and a 1933 Izhevsk 19/30). I gave a M44 Izhevsk to my eldest son. I also own a 1940 Tula Nagant M1895 Pistol. Love them all just like family!

New guy, old collector.
New guy here. I have a 91/30 that for the life of me I can't figure out. It shoots like my old M39 (sold long ago), but has Izhevsk markings with an SA in is box. There is a 41 stamped on the side of the which I've read means Russian capture. Could it be a Izhevsk that was converted by the Finnish?
