My First Mosin! 91/30 sniper import from Albania!

Post by srtjeeplover95 »

Hello,

I got this guy today a 1943 mosin 91/30 that I believe is a mostly orginal example that may have only saw one small refurb in it's life. What are everyone's thoughts? Imported by century!

That looks genuine, mount, scope, I think  . The stock cut is a little crude, But I don't haver any snipers. Look at the info @ top of the page under Mosin sniper rifles.

How did you determine that Century got it out of Albania?. I guess I find it a little odd that the scope s/n is "x'd" out on the barrel but it still has a scope. But, I'm not an expert on the snipers either. But, my thoughts are that if "x'd" out scope number, the gun was retired... But, who knows....

The scope serial number on the barrel shank would have been for the scope the rifle was originally issued with.

Once the rifle was Arsenal refurb'd the original scope was removed for whatever reason and a different scope was fitted.....so the original number was X'd out, sometimes the new scope number is stamped, sometimes not.

My '44 Izhevsk PU has had the original scope serial number scrubbed completely ( I say completely, a very faint "4" is still visible) at refurb and the replacement scope serial number has not been added.

So not uncommon at all for a PU with a scrubbed/X'd out serial number to have been refitted with a replacement scope and put back into Arsenal storage as a sniper rather than "retired".

Definitely a nice rifle. I'm still confused about an Albanian connection? Most all mosins I've seen come out of there were t53s and m44s along with the rare Albanian made 91/30 pattern rifle. The carbines are usually best to death.

There is a famous (or infamous) west coast sniper collector that claims scope numbers that where canceled out with an "x" is a sign the rifle was from Albania, but in 5 years of searching i have never found any information, written or otherwise that supports this claim.
