Received a CMP Winchester Field Grade M1 Garand Today

Post by RazorBurn »

I've had a real good gun day today. An SKS, and a field grade CMP Winchester M1 Garand. The Garand is my early Christmas present from my wife to me. The SKS was just because I couldn't pass up what I thought was a good deal. Now if I can just positively identify the SKS, but that's another thread.

I'm happy as hell with it. I put a sticky note on my order for "a nice shooter with good measurements", and that's exactly what I received. It has a undated Winchester barrel with muzzle wear of a touch over 2, and throat erosion of 4. Unmarked stock set that looks walnut to me. Uncut SA op rod, and a mix of other SA parts. Here are some pictures of it. I'm happier than a puppy with two peckers over this one. I like the "been there, done that" look, and it is exactly what I was hoping to receive.

Nice, I remember what it was like getting a new Garand for the collection :)

The Garand is still on my wish list along with a lot of other guns. Sweet looking rifle, glad it found a good home.

Thanks everyone! I was pumped when I unboxed it and saw the Winchester barrel and gas cylinder! :big shock:

No, it's my fourth one. I have three others that are Springfield Armory. One's a 6 digit, one's a 5.4 million, and the other is a 5.8 million. Garands are like Ruffles potato chips...

I've been wanting a Winchester Garand to go with my Winchester Carbine for a while, and I'm glad to see I made the cut in this order.

Holy Crap! Beautiful looking, and a field grade??? One of the Service grades I got doesn't compare to that. She is a beauty.

Very nice, RazorBurn! I picked up a Winchester service grade at the North store a few summers ago. I've been very happy with mine.

The CMP WRA FG I received this month is nicer than the CMP WRA SG I received last month.

Their grading system is clearly not an exact science. I didn't get an uncut op-rod and a WRA barrel though, that's pretty lucky.

I'd love to go to the South Store just once, but it's seven hours one way away. I just haven't been able to convince myself to go now, especially where the pickings have been getting so slim the past few years. I would hate to drive down and come back empty handed. I've done two mail order rifle orders with them, and both times I feel I've gotten really nice rifles. I soooo wish I had seemingly unlimited funds like some of the guys on the CMP forums have.

I passed on the International Harvesters the couple of times they were put up, so when I saw the Winchesters this time I figured it was now or never.

Where is the South store? You can buy over the counter there?

It's in Anniston, Alabama. You can buy over the counter there. If I remember right if you take the rifle there you have to pay sales tax, but if you have it shipped to your home there's no sales tax.
