scrubbed Peter the Great mark?

Post by NLMosin »

Is there an historic reason the Peter the Great mark would be ground off? I know the whole Arisaka mum story but never heard anything about the same type of scrubbing being done on mosins.

Look up posts under the Balkans type rifle and you will find your reason. Bill

Thanks for the point in the right direction zeebill!

Good post with Balkan info

Good news for me. I placed a bid on this one weeks ago and never though I'd get it based on what the average 91/30 refurb is going for....I am in it for $216 before the shipping. I'll post more pics when I get it.

Thanks again zeebill! :pointleft:

For years "Balkans" were looked down upon by collectors, especially the scrubbed ones. I bought two scrubbed ones years ago because they were part of Mosin history. But in the past 2 or so years, I have seen much more interest in them and the scrubbed ones have sold for much more than before.

You got this one at the old price. Congratulations on a neat Mosin.

Good looking PTG, for that price, I don't think you can really go wrong! The full PTG barrel shank is my 2nd favorite after a Sestroryetsk.
I don't have any Balkan rifles yet but it's just a matter of time before I wind up getting one though. Have to have at least one for the collection!

Too bad someone stripped the stock. I have a Balkan 1916 PTG and it has the Balkan pinecone in the finger groves.

It is one of the stamps that help in the identifications a SCW stock.

The pinecone is thought to be a Bulgarian mark, not SCW.
