Channelled a little Vasily Zaytsev at the range today

Worked up 3 different new loads for the PU this week using 180gr Sierra SPT and H4895. Was a bit concerned about the groupings at first but I also had the MagnetoSpeed attached to the rifle so that was likely why they were scattering a bit. After I took that off the rifle things started tightening up very nicely. It wasn't until the last round at the range that things really started to get good. Have to say that I'm going to have a very hard time beating this grouping any time soon. Anyone who says these crusty old Russian surplus rifles won't hit anything is full of it. 1/2 MOA @ 100 yards, that's a new best for me with any of my rifles. Gotta love these rifles!

The best of the groups. Looks like three holes but indeed it is 5! .512 MOA! I did have the rifle in the lead sled today, so that certainly helped.

1944 Izhevsk PU sniper with 1944 Yoshkar-Ola PU scope (one of the AIM batch from last year).
Sierra 180gr SPT bullets behind 41.1 gr H4895.
Shooting off a Caldwell lead sled.

Does anyone else here shoot offhand? Just curious, I feel like a right curmudgeon for not shooting off a bench.

I enjoy shooting offhand but the way the way our range is setup its a bit difficult, especially when it gets busy. If I could get this group offhand, I'd have to retire from shooting cause I know it would never happen twice!

Beautiful groups today Lotema. Guys, I was there sitting next to him hammering away with my AR & CM-2 and this was darn near the last group he shot on the day. Absolutely fantastic!

Yup, pretty neat device and only takes a second or two to put onto the rifle. Much easier than setting up the regular chronograph and it seems to be just about as accurate. Titanium Hammer gets cranky at the range when it takes the guys 15 minutes to put their chronographs up while everyone else is waiting to start shooting.

I really like those targets with the PU. I've tried a few different ones with it but for some reason my eyes really like those diamonds through the PU scope. Iron sights is a different story though, I tend to do better with circles @ 100 yards.

The Plantation Range looks like a good place to shoot. I wouldn't mind shooting up there but that's a bit of a haul from where we're at. I'm hoping this summer to head over to Eastern Washington (Wenas) and do some long range shooting. We have a firearms group where I work that goes over there once a month and I've just been to busy this year to go over with them.
