As much as I get to the range I have pretty much given up on surplus and worrying about cleaning right away. Surplus has skyrocketed in price almost to the point it's as expensive as new production. To me, it's just not worth it.

None that I can think of short of moving your grip forward, or possibly cutting a small piece of thin rubber that could temporarily be place over that area while in use? This is what I use. One of the best things I have ever done for myself.

Use recoil pad for mosin nagant as well as rem 760 12 gauge. Slips on chest left or right. Not the gun but the shooter. Save getting beat up. Can get about every where for less than $40. You know.... I would really be interested in seeing the tang date and armory stamp on this one. Based on the fonts on the "7" and s/n which are different this could, very well, be an Izhevsk build. Possible you will find either an Izhevsk receiver or a Tula star overstamped with Izhevsk. ...
