I really can't use most soviet bloc ammo because I usually have access to indoor ranges that restrict the use of steel core ammo. Otherwise I would.

This stuff in the 250 rd. time on strippers is not steel core. It is fmj lead core.

That is very good to know. Beats purchasing and finding out that it's not the type I could use.

Looks like they still have had two cans. I just ordered them. I assume they are the galvanized ones because they are the ones they thought didn't have strippers.

I love hoarding ammo. :chuckles:

Haha! Ooops. Do they realize their mistake now? Did you fill them in as you bought them?

The Academy Spirts near me is selling spam cans of 7.62x39. The price is ok, and naturally the manufacturing date is in this century.

Anybody around here with genuine Hungarian MN stripper clips he got together with Hungarian ammunition on them? Would be very glad to see photos of them, if possible side, top and bottom views. Just trying to "select" a couple of unmarked Eastern Bloc stripper clips I won in an auction recently. Most of them seem to be of Czech (or maybe also Polish - these are really hard to distinguish) origin to me, but at least one is a little bit shallower from the side than the rest of them and the surface finish more shiny - so I guess Hungarian or probably Romanian.

Thanks for the pictures - until now I did only know these blued "10 in circle" marked Bulgarian clips. Seems that they have unmarked ones, too. They look pretty close to one of mine, however. This one is shown on the first photo in the right upper corner. The one below I'm not sure whether Czech or Polish, the three to the left are Finnish GWS-marked ones.

The second and third photos show some clips I'm pretty sure they are from Czechoslovakia. The seller told me that they are from the East German Army, but the GDR Army is known to have received a lot of MN ammo from Czechoslovakia.

For comparison purposes I'd be glad for every picture of unmarked Eastern Bloc stripper clips which can be clearly identified because of the ammunition once coming with them.

What has started as an effort to find some genuine, working stripper clips for my Mosin-Nagant rifles (Hungarian M.48 and a Finnish M39 coming soon) now has produced quite a nice little collection of 117 stripper clips:
10 Finnish Tikkakoski "T in triangle and circle"-marked (the real ones!)
8 of the inevitable "Chinakoski" copies (okay, these were my first buy - and they work pretty well)
10 Finnish "GWS"-marked
10 Izhevsk old style (with fingers) and old "bow-and-arrow" marking
1 Izhevsk old style (with fingers) and new "arrow" marking
13 Izhevsk new style (without fingers), "arrow"-marked
3 Chinese unmarked brass (originals)
5 Chinese blued "31"-marked
1 German "D.M. in an oval"-marked
1 Russian Lugansk "Л"-marked
1 Remington(?) "R"-marked
11 unmarked Eastern Bloc (most probably Czech and/or Polish - still trying to sort out, see above)
1 unmarked Eastern Bloc (most probably Hungarian, Romanian or Bulgarian - see above)

Some more are under way:
2 Bulgarian blued "10 in a circle"-marked
6 Tula(?) blued "star"-marked
6 Tula(?) unblued "star"-marked
8 Belgian "FN"-marked (according to the seller - but until I don't hold them in my hands and see it with my own eyes, I'm skeptical...)
20 older original ones from Finland - most probably GWS, Tikka or older Izhevsk ones

Sorry, Barnaul was an autocorrect.

The spam cans were 300 rounds, $170.

Thanks for the pictures, 7x57.

I picked up another tin at my LGS. The new one in my collection is the painted tin at the top left, which has similar markings as the one on the top right except it is missing the row containing the 70 series numbers that I can only assume might be dates which would put the manufacture in the 1970's(?). That would be late compared to the other tins.

Image

So what exactly is in my unopened tins, other than being brass cased fmj lead core? Someone mentioned that one of the painted tins they opened contained circle 10 strippers. Was that a tin with the 10k on it, or with the 70 series numbers?

I am not going to open them all, but I will open one tomorrow night, so which one should it be?

Also, anyone have a range report on this stuff yet?

The two tins in the upper row both have an imprint meaning "no data" (без данни). The last row on the right upper tin reads as "airtight (херметически) 4.70.710" - the digits maybe a combined date and lot no., but I'm not sure. This second line beginning with a small "B" on three of the tins may be a remark that there are stripper clips included, but I can't figure out the exact meaning at the moment.

Good info.

I saw some of the galvanized tins at a gun show. They were asking $150 each but didn't know they had stripper clips.

Ok, so I opened the painted tin from the top right in my previous picture as I was curious to know if the numbers had anything to do with a date.

It took a bit to get the tin open. I used a pair of pliers to pull on the tab, expecting it to open like the galvanized tin. It does not, and is much harder to open than the galvanized tin.

Please excuse the fuzzy photo, the camera lens had fogged up due to the high humidity.

Blued circle 10 stripper clips! Packed extremely tight in the tin.

Image

Comparison shot between the steel strippers in the galvanized tin (on the left) and blued circle 10 stippers in the painted tin (on the right). I'm going to go ahead and say that all the painted tins contain blued circle 10 strippers.

Image

Circle 10 clear as day.

Image

Finally, the headstamp. Star/3/10/53 Obviously, the 70 series numbers have nothing to do with the date of the round.

One other difference I noticed between the contents of the painted tin vs. the galvanized tin. The rounds and the strippers of the painted tin were coated with oil, while the contents of the galvanized tin were bone dry.
