Manufacturer Stamp ID

From what I understand, I have 1922 M91. I’m trying to learn more about it, but can’t figure out where the manufacturer’s stamp is from. The Tula factory seems to be the closest match, but I can’t find an exact match. It’s a star (no arrow) with 5 dots surrounding it. Thanks for any help.

Rough translation of the arsenal markings.

ПЕРВЫЕ = FOREMOST
ТУЛЬСКИЕ = TULA
ОРУЖЕИНЫЕ = ORDINANCE
ЗАВОДЫ = FACTORY
РСФСР = (Of the) RSFSR (Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic)
1922г = 1922 year (г = year)

Would love to see more pictures of the rifle. Is it still in M91 length or has it been cut down to M91/30 length.

BTW Welcome to the RMNF and the madness/addiction. We have a great bunch of people around here, which some are extremely knowledgeable in military surplus weapons and weapons period. So hang around and post up some pictures of your rifle. We love pictures, the more the better, seeing some of us can't read, but I won't mention their names.....LOL.

Congrats on a very nice rifle. These are fairly uncommon to find anymore. To me a true collector's piece. I used to have one of these, a 1922 as well.

after reading the OP, I went and checked my babies .. I had never taken note before other than the year. My 1928 has the same markings, so likely at least 22-28 Tula's with the same stamps.

The stamps are different. The RSFSR's were only stamped as such until 1924. Attached are a few files I created some time ago that explains the Tula shank stampings. In 1924 there was an overlap of sorts where you might find a RFSFR and CCCP stamping in the same year.

Ah My lack of attention to detail .. I didn't detail compare the lettering, just looked at the star with the dots vs the later Tula star device. great information - thanks.

And remember, you can find all of this type of information in the "RMNF Knowledge Base" at
app.php/page/1

Speciffically for the barrel shank marks
app.php/page/58

By the way, anyone who has any of the missing images in the knowledge base it would be very helpful of you passed them along.m We will put them in the proper place. Also, if anyone wants to do work on the database, let me know.

Thanks for the info guys. It is missing the rod that would be attached to the bottom of the rifle. Any ideas on where I could find one that would be similar to the original?

I don't know where you can get a cleaning rod. These are very difficult to find anymore. They've all been bought up. And if you find one you're probably looking at $100. I found one, maybe more, on eBay which would come right out of Russia on a slow boat... No matter where you search, be sure you're looking for an M-91 or Mosin Imperial cleaning rod.

You could put a WTB listing on the forum to see if any of the guys are willing to give one up. That said, I don't think many have extra cleaning rods laying around for this rifle.

Original cleaning rods can be found on ebay and some parts vendors. If it's still M91 length, you can expect to pay between $50.00 and $100.00. Just keep your eyes open I found one last year or so for around $40.00 on ebay.

The length will be 28 5/16 inches or basically 29 inches. Check your PMs....

I think I'd jump all over this if I needed one of these cleaning rods... I kind of thought that someone like ffluries might jump in and help :D
