1925 Tula Question

1925 Tula Question

I was looking at the rarity chart and noticed that 1925 Tulas are singled out as rarer than most other years in the era. I searched around the forum to read threads mentioning 1925 Tulas but wasn't able to find any discussion on why this is so. I understand the issues around 1919, but what was going on in 1925?

A quick Google search gave me this answer, whether 100% accurate I can't tell you that.

They started phasing out the production of M91s in favor of the Dragoon models. The last year for Tula made M91s was in 1926, so a few years leading up to 1926 the numbers of M91s made were less and less. So 1925 would have been the next to the last year, that the final M91 was made by Tula.

Thanks for that. I was trying to find the answer here and didn't consider just googling it! That's what happens when I'm up past bedtime.

Last year of production in the Tula plant for M91 was supposed to be in 1930.

But, in 1930 they made zero M91's so really, they stopped in 1929.

In 1930 Tula was tooling up for the new model M91/30, and M91 production was basically zero.

So the last "Known" Tula M91's were made in 1929 and the production run was low mainly because they had a lot of M91 on hand.

So, not many M91 Tulas' survived in tact over the years and because of the low production that made them "harder" to find these days. Call it "rare" if you like.

Now this is my understanding.

Interesting, 1925 was a low production year due to an excess on hand that year.

It's not correct. First serial M91/30 were manufactired only in May 1931. Alsmost 100% of 1930 production were dragoon M91's (except very few trial rifles)

From want I can find the last "Standard" Tula M91 was made in 1926, the last "Dragoon" M91 was made in 1932 or 1931 depending on which source you go with. I tell you, this stuff gets more confusing the more I read....

Yes, last infantry M91's were accepted in 1926, last dragoon M91's - in 1931

Yeah for sure the 1925's, even the refurbed 91/30's were on the difficult side to find. And more often than not, a lot of the refurbs didn't match. The later 5-line Tula refurbs were always a bit easier to find intact though for some reason.
