Another pu authenticity check

Post by Haphazird »

Bought this a year ago. Did quick research as there was another buyer involved. Appears to be a tulsky, and legit. I still research to appease my mind, and wallet. My main concern is the stock. Cutout aint so pretty, and brass ends on handguard?

The REAL experts will be along shortly, but given what I can see, it looks a LOT like my Tulsky import PU. I would lean toward yours being one of those. The brass hand guard caps are interesting.

Again, more seasoned veterans will be along shortly to correct me in that assumption if necessary.

I fully agree on the tulsky import. But with people saying 99% of snipers are fake, im looking for 2nd, and 3rd, and 4th opions lol

How about more then one photo?

That import mark in important, but so is the rest of the rifle.. That rifle could be one of thousands imported by that importer that were not PU snipers.

So, how is it possible to tell it is real or not? You can't

Well I'll be danged there are more pictures, 16 in total. Have to excuse some of us (Me included) we're not use to pictures being done this way. Not a bad thing mind you, just some of us are old dogs and we're a little slow learning new tricks.

Welcome to the forum, now we know there are more pictures hopefully those in the know can give you the answers you seek.

+1, not use to these new fangled ways of posting pics. Unfortunately I will need to look at them on something other than my phone as they are pretty small on my phone.

It is a Tulsky imported authentic M91/30 PU sniper rifle.

Those import marks on the right side give it away.

Scope looks to be a replacement scope.
Scope (I think) was made around 1943 by Progress in Omsk?, Russia.

I agree with Darryl, and you are correct on the scope Darryl, late 1943 Progress/Omsk.

So does the refurb take place in 43? Or, just who knows? Are tulskys pretty consistent, or do they run the gamut?

No, the refurb was done much later in the 60's and some in the 70's.

Tulsky ...... Yes, they look a lot alike and are handled the same way. Remember, Tulsky did very little to the rifle except mark the heck out of it with their import marks.

So its a legit sniper from 43, as i assumed. But what about the stock? Im not sure its not a replacement, how would you tell? The cutouts seem sketchy.

The stock is a post war replacement, Izhevsk used 1/2 liners on there snipers in 1943

What are you talking about? It looks like any other nice M91/30 stock.

I am curious about the use of “tulsky/Tulsky” here.
What does it mean in this context?
Is there an importer or rifle smith called Tulsky?

Yes, the "T" in the circle inside the triangle is the Tulsky Patronny logo. They exported them with the help of PW Arms and IO who were in the USA and are importers) and sold here in the USA by SAMCO, AIM, Classic Arms, and Royal Tiger Imports.

This is one reason we like to see the import marks on snipers. It tell a story and authenticates (along with all the features) that the PU sniper is real.

Thanks.
I was confused because I can sound out the Cyrillic ( I was a linguist in the Army) and “Tulskiy” is stamped on the Imperial Russian rifles for Tula Arsenal.
Interesting read, thanks for the reference.
