Can a matching 91/30 have a stock with an earlier year?

Post by Boi1901 »

Hello, I have recently bought a 1938 Mosin Nagant 91/30 tula finnish capture and everything is matching accept the year on the 1936 Tula stock cartouche. Is this gun still matching or is the stock been changed?

If the rifle has 1938 on the barrel, and 1936 on the stock then the stock has been changed. This is normal, during refurbishments and repairs parts were commonly changed around and the ones with serial numbers force matched to the barrel number. Sometimes the Finn's did next to nothing except stamp a property mark like SA in a square, other times they did over the entire weapon.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.
