I don't think it is true but it does not matter it shoots straight.

The parts are real, but I will defer verification until I see it on my computer.

OK I have look at it on my computer and it is a a strong maybe. You need some good clear close up pics of the left & right side of the barrel shank, and the receiver flat under the bolt, uncock the bolt, open and take a good clear pic. Also get some pics of the stock, overall and the right side of the butt stock.

I see stuff I like but not enough to say it is legit.

Its legit, dont see any signs of a scope number on the barrel shank, but it could have been scrubbed, nor do I seen the normal inspector marks that would be there if it wasnt a sniper. The stock looks like it was chemically cleaned to remove the tyical Russian shellac.

is it therefore a real sniper and a real pu ?

it was never near any battlefield I was ever on....

As stated, the stock has been chemically cleaned, the sanding appears like it was done at the arsenal, other than that it is a typical refurb.

Here is one the same age as the OP's, but this one hasn't received a refurb except for replacement of the scope. The stock is in beautiful shape with minor handling marks. Might it have seen field service, maybe, but probably not a lot.
Not every sniper built was on the front lines tagging Germans, some where issued out in areas that saw little or no action.

How can you tell it had "zero service"?
It's not possible. It is an refurbished rifle meaning the stock was sanded (which is shows evidence of sanding) then shellacked. Someone removed the shellac at some point (like Miller said) and this is what is left. If they sanded it hard, then all the battle scares will be removed (or could be). The entire idea of a refurbishment is to remove all the evidence of war and storage.

And this is if we never consider that this is not the original stock for this rifle. During refurbishment, it may have been determined the stock was not repairable. Then they would have replaced it. They wouldn't have just tossed the metal away.

So, how can you tell it had zero service...you can't

On a refurbished rifle, it's not possible to tell if it was used or racked.

Most has been said about it already, but I definitely like the rifle. Seems to be legit.
Progress scope with refurb mark and force matched (electro pencil) original PU mount.
Wherever is was refurbished, they didn’t bother adding the scope number on the receiver.
The stock has had a good deal of sanding, but the reddish color remains. Good.
