Just walked out. Inside was a '54 Romanian M44 for $179 and a '43 Izhevsk M38 with laminated stock for 149. Neither really spoke to me, so what kind of deal if any are these?

Don't know about the Romanian, but go back and get the M38! That is a great price for one!

Forgot to mention, the 38 has a recoil pad in place of butt plate, the biggest turn off to me

You must be crazy man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Like Sarge says buy the M38 immediatly and then if you can buy the M44 too. If they have layaway buy the M38 and layaway the M44. That is a straight steal on the M38 and a good deal for a M44 :big shock: :big shock: :wow:

Is it a permanent one or a screwed on one. I would probably still buy it if it wasn't too hacked up. And then replace it with a butt plate.

For $150 I'd buy it right now.

Butt plate can probably be replaced of its the screw on type

Definitely buy them if you can afford it. Anytime you can get a carbine for under $200 now days it's usually a good deal. The buttplate is about $6. https://www.buymilsurp.com/mosin-nagant ... c-2_3.html

Roma carbines are much harder to find than Soviet refurbs, if it's in nice shape then it's selling under value, buy it. The M38 is selling under value as well even with the pad on it.

Ask for their best price if you buy both. You would love shooting the carbines, unless giant fireballs and mansize recoil isn't your thing. Good luck.

So just went back and decided on the m44. Mostly because I already have a '43 Izhevsk M38, albeit with a standard stock. I like that its Romanian and something a little different. Agreed on $160 OTD... But I got delayed, so I put down 20% to keep it on layaway and will grab it in a few days
