puolustuslaitos

Post by SA1911a1 »

My brother called me last night talking about a 1905 Mosin he had seen in an out-of-state pawn shop. I was able to dig enough info to determine that it is a Finn rework, probably Izhevsk, M-91 and it may or may not be marked with puolustuslaitos. He was able to get the seller down to $350.00 out the door before he bolted. Assuming that I couldn't get the price down any further, and it would be a major pain in the butt for me to drive to it, should I bother or pass?

What would a good deal be on a plain M-91, and an M-91 PUOL today?

$350 for any m91 would be a great price around here. For a PL marked one, a steal. What state did you say that was in

My take on it is that if it is NOT PL marked that seems about right for a decent condition Finn capture around me. I am in TN.

I see 40s Finn made and various Finn captures list at $400-$450 and sit for a while.

If it is PL marked I would say it is a deal.

I want to go to a show in Alabama on Saturday, the questionable gun is in Georgia, and I am in Florida.

Decisions, decisions. If I were reasonably sure it was a PL I would skip the show.

By the way, can anyone pronounce puolustuslaitos or spell it without help?

This is why I just roll with PL. No shot at it!

...and, I am not understanding the logistical challenge here...I think the correct choice is to hit GA AND AL?!?!

Well you know there is an M91 in Georgia, you don't know what if anything is in Alabama.
Finding any Mosin Nagant at a gun show here in S. Indiana is rare nowadays.
If I wanted an M91 I would go look at it.

Go get it, grab lunch and a bucket of peaches, get the brother a good cigar, that's a good price for just a regular Finn M91.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

If it is PL marked, definitely go for it.

If I could verify this was a PL rifle, I'd be in the car right now if I were you :D That's a decent price for a nice Finn M-91 and a deal on a PL rifle.

There is a PL marked M91 fairly locally for $600 so $350 sounds fantastic!

 If I knew it was PL, I'd drive to Oregon, Idaho and maybe parts of western Montana for it at that price. I'm always up for a road trip though.

Common PL stamped M91s are the early 1940s Tikka barreled rifles & M39s, less common are the PL stamped VKT M91s and then the PL stamped 91-30s.....then IMO the less less common PL stamped rifles are the Imperial M91s/Dragoons.....

Odd ball PL stamped rifles....? M38s and M27s....

I was fortunate to spot a PL marked VKT M91 at a gun show with qz2026. I pointed out this imaginary hot blonde in the aisle over from us and as qz2026 was spinning around looking for the beauty I grabbed the rifle and was fishing for my wallet before he knew what I had.

If I bought him a good cigar, he would tear it apart looking for the firecracker. :)

You crooks may have convince me. I think I have to go look at it. If it is what I hope, I'll take it, and not need to go to the show. if not I will get to the show mid afternoon. Gas is cheap.
