Well today the Hillbilly turned 65. my wife blessed my picking up my 1895 Mauser and putting this into lay away at my favorite gun shop. It's a 1909 Argentine Mauser all matching but the crest has been removed from the receiver. The bore is near mint so it should be a good shooter. We will see when I get it out and to the range.

The 1909 Argentine is the finest GEW98 ever made, the fit and finish on mine are superb.

Ya I agree about the fit and finish on the rifle. I've been in a Mauser rut lately I now have a 1895 Chilean, 1908 Brazilian, 98/29 Persian, 24/47, 1891 Argentine and now a 1909 Argentine. I've been trying to avoid any new calibers as I have so many to load for now between the hand guns and the rifles I load about 26 different cartridges now. So I try and keep about 40 to 50 of each rifle cartridge on hand and 100-200 of the hand gun calibers. Getting to be a chore just keeping it all straight.

Happy Birthday! I too have been into the Argentines my 09 action is so smooth its incredible, I just bought a carbine that arrives tomorrow. I bought both because I do load the ammo and got good deals. I would also love to see how yours shoots and plan to post a range day myself...

Can't go wrong with any of the Argentines. All are superb rifles. Don't see too many of the 1909's with scrubbed crests though. Congrats!! You will enjoy this rifle...

Bunky there are two more that I want but I will not say anything, last time I did some people got upset here and lord knows I don't want that. But I just don't have enough money to buy every one that I come across. Last pay period I put in over 131 hours in that two weeks and the Boss said "Oh go ahead and buy the rifle you earned it" so I did. But heck I wish i could buy them all.

I know exactly what you mean about keeping the different types of ammo. I try to have a few hundred of each and a few thousand of the more popular ones. I too like the Central and South American Mausers . I would like to get a Persian. The South American Mausers are a great value compared to the German Mausers. Other than the 1935 Brazilian they are usually less expensive, but you get some of the finest German made Mausers available. Also Belgium and Czech. Plus the crests are really cool.

I hear ya burrhead, I have slacked off on buying guns for awhile. I don't have space for any more, and have joined the reloading fan club more than ever to help feed what I already have.

looking for 8mm Mauser, 7.5 Swiss, and 7.62x54R brass

Bunky I bought up a couple thousand burden primers and I reload GP11 brass. That helps a lot as I have three Swiss to feed. But I am running low on burden primers. Graf and sons use to stock them but no more. I'll find them though. I hate to think what all I reload got to be around 26 different cartridges.
