Bought this 1940 Tula at a gun show in Upstate NY yesterday. I bought it because its the first laminated stock I've ever seen. The price wasnt bad...just $169.

Nice rifle....In my book, any pre -ww2 mosin in that condition with a laminate stock is well worth $169.00.

Great looking rifle and a Tula as well! I know what you mean about the budget, I was tempted to buy all of the laminates I saw at our LGS this weekend but decided I didn't want my wife to kill me over it! One is better than none!

Very likely it's somebody's old stockpile being sold, that looks like one of the older Ukrainian imports rather than the more recent Molot. Nice find and at a good price.

I paid that much for a laminate 91/30 two years ago. But mine wasn't a Tula and wasn't is as nice condition. Score! Nice one.

Very nice  It's getting hard to find a 1940 matching refurb any more. Also, it's nice to find a Laminate Mosin that isn't EP'd. Good snag.

Finally got a chance to shoot the old laminate. Here's what It'll do at 100 yards. Even though I cleaned it for hours after 30 rounds the cosmoline was still oozing out of it. Getting kinda slippery toward the end so I wiped it down and called it a day.

The five up top were the first five to spot where it was hitting when held at bullseye. The rest are compensating down and right. Im happy with it.

Come on Bill, you know what they are going for now. I'm surprised you didn't buy them all. I haven't seen them at that price for almost a year.

$149 is double what I paid for many of my refurb 91/30's, even triple in some cases. If I priced them at $200 all of mine would be gone in a few days once word got out.

If the unrest ends 'over there' the bottom might just drop out of the mosin market. I'm trying not to buy too many at these prices....but will they go higher?...why oh why didnt i get addicted to collecting used toilet paper rolls...no market there!

When I bought this Tula there was a kid there at the table with his dad trying to talk himself into buying one also. I 'helped' with that decision letting him know a '39 Tula in a laminate stock for $169 was the deal of the day. I should have kept my mouth shut and bought both of them...but noooooo not me! :bonk:

Well, the prices has doubled in the last two years. The prices will continue to climb unfortunately. There are very few, if any, coming into the country now. Classic just got a bunch in and has now reset the price for these rifle pretty high. I'm seeing the same thing at the auction houses. I am also seeing some resistance from the buying community - the rifles are not selling at the inflated prices unless they are something special or the seller doesn't know what he has. I'm not sure if Classic is selling a bunch or not. Hang in there though, there are still good deals out there - your find is an example of that. :D

Classic's Tula hex's went first, then the Tula rounds. Looks like just Izhevsk's left. Im sure the hex's will go first. Little bit harder of a sell on the Izhevsk rounds I would imagine. Especially sight unseen. Cant tell if there are any of the wacky markings we all love... :) :2cents:

In time they will sell at the higher prices as new first time buyers come along who don't remember the $55 91/30, or the $155 one either.
