8X56R Headstamped 1938 Value?

Post by Joeinthehills »

First of all ,and yes, allot of stuff gets buried in my hobby room. :chuckles: (Shit happens & then some).

Seems that I have discovered 100 rounds of 8x56R 10RD/BX with a 1938 NAZI head stamp.

I never purchased the rifle so I will want to sell or trade them to feed some of my other collectibles. :bonk:

They are in the original paper boxes on stripper clips as they were manufactured in back in 1938.

Hell, that was before I was born. :)

Anybody have an idea what I should ask as I paid $1.70 / round plus shipping for them back in 1997?

A real dumb ass move considering I didn't own a rifle to shot it...

Shit happens :angry4:

I think you done the right thing Joe, I pick up everything that crosses my path if the ammo price is right.
I bought a carbine from a guy last year for $100 and he gave me 19 boxes of your type of ammo. That stuff is probably worth way more than the rifle itself.
I was thinking I seen it selling some place for around $30 per box. Can't remember now but I think it was on gunbroker.
I'm sure some of these old boys know way more about it than I do. I shot 5 rounds of mine as the seller asked me to. Then I ordered some PPU for the carbine and will save the rest.

I bought 4 unopened boxes of it for $15.00 per box. The Nazis must have made a ton of it in '38, I have never seen any other date. I bought my first 10 years ago.

I've only seen a few rounds that are not 1938 Nazi marked. A few of my rounds are 1937 & 1938 with Austrian/Hirtenberger marking and kinda interesting the 1938 must have been made at the beginning of the year before the Nazi's took over the factory. I've seen people buy up the 10rd boxes at $20 a box.

I bought a box of that out of the display case at the local Army Navy surplus store in 1988. There was just the one box and I didn't see another like it for 20 years. Hold on to it, it's as much a relic of the war as the rifle itself.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Just what I though to Jim, the guns will be around a while but this ammo will probably not. When my friend sent me the $100 carbine and 19 boxes of this stuff it killed me even shooting the 5 rounds that he asked me to shoot. The rifle was captured and when he bought it there was a wooden plug in the barrel with nails added scratching the crown. He told me if I wanted it as a shooter I'd have to have it counter bored... First couple shots out of the rifle were for testing and then the last 3 went into a 3 inch circle at 60 yards... I couldn't believe my eyes  77 year old ammo and a beat to death carbine still field ready.... :D They kick pretty hard too.

I'd save it Joe and when we meet someday, if I ever make it to Zeebills I'll trade you out of it. Maybe I'll trade you some of that rare ammo I used to hear about called 22 cal.

That stuff is a healthy load. I had 20 boxes or so that came with an m95 carbine I bought. Last I checked that stuff was running right around $2 a round. I shot 5 rounds through that rifle. I traded it for an sks and about 500 rds of wolf.

Neat pieces of history. Back in the 90's, we were able to buy it by the case. Interesting to see, as the dates progressed, the headstamp change to the Nazi magpie. The stuff we got was all mixed up datewise, even within the stripper clips. It is definitely lively ammo, especially in those little carbines! :)

Liberty Tree $25.00 per box. last I bought from liberty tree was $ 20.00. I picked up some at my lgs last year for $15.00 per if I took all 18 bxs. I jumped on it. Privi Partizan is producing sum. Sportsman guide sells it when they have it for $22.19 SP and $ 22.49 FMJ they have FMJ now.

Just a few weeks ago, I bought three boxes of '38 and '39; sounds like the same stuff. I paid $40 for the tree boxes, bought as a curiosity, as I do not have a firearm in that caliber.

I saw a large pile of this yesterday and the boxes and contents were pristine brand new looking. 14.99 per box.

Not cheap stuff. The carbines are pretty cheap to buy, but the ammo is not.

This is more of a collectors ammo. $41.75 up.

Prvi Partizan is about 95 to $1 a round.
