My First Mauser: Yugo M48. (Lots Of Pics)

Post by vblue42 »

I am proud to present to you fine folks my first Mauser. This is the Yugo M48 that Im sure you all know well. I bought it from Widener's along with 3 boxes of PPU 198gr FMJBT 8mm ammo. Currently as of this writing they are selling the rifles for 269.99. They list the rifles as non serial matching but as you can see the one that I received is all matching. The rifle did come with the cleaning rod and sight hood but did not come with any other accessories. The sling you see on this rifle is a surplus Yugo sling that I bought from Liberty Tree Collectables. Be warned, if you buy one of these, be prepared for some serious cosmoline cleaning as these rifles are seriously packed with the stuff. This rifle judging by the patina and ware, appears to have been issued for a time before it was refurbed and put into storage. The stock is very nice with some dints and dings from handling, the blueing I would judge at about 70% and the bore looks shiny and new with very nice lans and grooves. I will be firing this rifle this coming sunday and will post a range report some time after. Enjoy the pics.

WOW, WOW, WOW. I don't much about these. But I must say that this is a beautiful rifle. Very much worth what you paid for it as far as I am concerned. I really like the pictures as well. I don't think I would have the luck you did in getting a matching numbers rifle. If I thought I could, it would probably be my next purchase.

Looks like it is all milled parts so definitely an earlier m48. Some of the lines get blurred on the m48- m48A and M48B

Nice. I may just have to buy one of these. Mine does not have the, " Skull Crusher ", buttplate and I want one.

I would call them and ask. Tell them you saw one from someone that bought one from them and you would like on as well. They may just decide to make it happen for you.

This was an absolute requirement for my purchase as I did not want one with stamped parts. As far as I know, all the ones that Widener's has are the all milled M48's. Just for reference, S&G sales has them as well but you may get one with stamped parts. They also do hand select for numbers matching but it will cost you 30 bucks.

Oh my! I love the way this thing shoots. So soft for such a big round. No pain in my shoulder at least with the PPU 198gr FMJ. I think I found my new favorite rifle. Heres a little clip of me putting the first rounds through it today.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
