Remember my birthday M44?

Post by mogunner »

Y'all remember way back (for us memory challenged guys anyways) in August when I posted that I traded .22LR, 9mm and 7.62x39 ammo for a 1944 Izhevsk M44? It's this one right here...

Don't be making fun of the stick, neither, that was painstakingly crafted by my dog, Chewie... :angry4:

Well, it's been sitting in storage since then, seems like it either rains every Sunday or I never took it with me over the few times I did make it out shooting. Finally took it out Sunday before last, was contemplating selling it to fund other purchases and figured I better at least shoot it to make sure it worked...

I have to say, that thing is the sweetest shooting critter I've ever pulled the trigger on, in x54r. Straight out of the box I shot this target at 50 yards with surplus Bulgarian silvertip.

Then just to make sure I hadn't suddenly developed good shooting habits, I have my buddy Paul run a magazine through. Have to excuse that first shot down and to the right, he isn't used to a factory Mosin trigger, the one he got off me had the usual polishing done on it.

Needless to say, I've decided it's not going anywhere at all...matter of fact I did the polish work on the trigger spring and took it back out Sunday, when we did this...

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

The reason some Mosins get sold or bubbafied is from a lack of getting to know them first.

This is from a bench and a rest under the stock right about at the recoil lug when we were initially shooting it, haven't shot for accuracy since I did the trigger cleanup. Blackpowder this weekend so it'll probably be a couple weeks before I drag it out again.
