That is the scope number. It is right on the left side of the barrel shank where it should be.

Here is my ex-sniper and scope number.....same as his.

Here is my "real" sniper.....same thing

Holy shit, for a second these I thought we were witnessing history and you posted a pic Bill, then I realized it was a quote of Dolks post :) You almost had me there, I was going to run out and grab a couple of lotto tickets as amazing things are supposed to happen in threes.

Strange there's no other number. I've been looking around and so far the only place I've found selling what they claim is Romanian is Centerfire Systems. Problem is the tin pictured in the ad is clearly marked 188 which is Russian Novosibirsk/LVE. http://centerfiresystems.com/AM54R3.aspx That has the twine wrapped paper packs. Widener's had it a while back. http://www.wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm? ... C830%7C853 I believe this is Romanian. I have no ide what the headstamps look like though. Ted doesn't have any references to Romanian ammo that I can see. http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinAmmoID.htm

Here's another one. Sportsmans Guide selling Romanian that has Polish 21 pictured. I think Joe even called them about this. http://shop.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/ ... x?a=235122 Ok I remember now. Look down the page here and click where it says "2 User Comments". http://gun-deals.com/displaydeal.php?dealid=11341

And finally here's a thread about some older Romanian but it has the 22 above the year on th headstamp. http://forums.gunboards.com/showthread. ... al-Report) and an ad from AIM. http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=A76254STR This one looks most promising. Same twine wrapped paper packs.
