Welcome to the board, I paid $45 for mine in 1993, today things are more expensive, so I am told anyway. You sure it's not Finn matched with the last three digits of the barrel serial stamped on the bolt knob? The 28/30 is highly sought after and not available in nearly the numbers of the M39. I would expect the price to be $500-$600 or more unless you got lucky.

As with most Finn rifles, certain years are more valuable than others. Matching bolt serial is prefered but not necessary. It can be used as a bargaining point though.

Remember on the M28 and M28/30 the serial is on the left of the barrel and the civil guard number is on the right. Both or either one can be on the bolt body or the bolt knob.

The big thing to watch for that really affects value and collectability is refinishing of the stock, not by the Finns during their post war refurbishment but by bubba here in the US.

Don't see them sold too often and therefore always seem to bring $500+. Last year I got an early no date M28/30 and paid $600 and found a mint refurbished 1939 for less than $300.

I agree. They a M28/30 can reach $750 and beyond (seen $1,200 for matching in correct date Civil Gaurd Stock), but $500-600 is more the range and that is for matching bolt.

I just paid $475 shipped for a bolt matching 1940 M28/30 in what looks to be a M28/57 stock. It is the highest recorded serial number for a M28/30 other than late dates and civilian sales.

First post so I'll just write what I bought, any and all comments appreciated.
It's my sons Christmas present.
It's a Westinghouse 1915, it has what I believe are Finnish indicators, but the seller disagreed.
It has a boxed SA stamp on left side of serial number, a D also stamped near serial number. Also has the metal sling loops in each cut out and the the rear sight is arched.
The stock has no markings, and it appears the wood was refinished at some point. All serial numbers match and the bore is in awesome condition!
It has no bayonet, I don't see wear on the barrel from a bayonet either.
I know all the Westinghouse rifles have 1915 stamped, the serial number is about 480.000, the "New England" is arched.
What do you folks think?

I joined because of a question, I have a 1929 Tula, it follows the spec. guide lines of the Dragoons, Hex receiver, curved leaf sight (13-32 I believe), and original dragoon front sight, etc. but has 3 Finn (two SA, one D) on the barrel , stamps, does this make it an Ex-Dragoon? Thanks

I got mine from my grandfather when he pasted a few years back, one thing you'll find is that they can be hard to figure out because of all the different variations, and changes, my first Nagant was an Original Tula 1929 Dragoon, most were made converted into the common M91/30 but mine survived modification by every owner before me, and now I get to hold a real piece of history. Good luck, and keep in mind everyone here is happy to help, pictures always make it easier though!

The Finns definitely got ahold of that one at some point (Boxed SA, and D) And believe it or not it's not a 1915, the curved "New England" means it was a later model, probably 1918, weird I know, great find, I'm sure he'll love it

I'm curious why the seller disagrees. If owner could start thread with pics that would be great. The only reason I can see them disagreeing is they don't know any better or they think the stamps aren't legit.

Usually the SA Stamp and D Stamps do mean it's a Finn, but unfortunately there have been certain unscrupulous individuals over the years who went crazy stamping things. I know there are some who say it is not an issue but the fake SA Stamps have been around for at least 10 years.

They wouldn't make and sell the stamps if there weren't people buying them. There is really only 2 reasons to own a SA Stamp. One to learn the difference from the real thing first hand in order to better spot fakes and two to stamp rifles, bayonets, and other items to add $100 or more in value.

Sorry guys, this rifle has been refinished and as such will not be seen on this forum. We are and always will be a preservation forum.

In answer to the question about the seller, his comment was all Finnish guns had mismatched serial numbers.
And I certainly meant no disrespect showing the gun if it is refinished.
