Hi everyone. I'm a new member with a 1942 VKT M-39. I'm fairly new to Mil-Surps and have A LOT to learn. But...I can see I'm in the right place! Thanks for an excellent board!

Thank you I'm hoping someone might know. Would I probably be correct in that the star inside the pentagon in the first photo would indicate Tula.
Anyone know the one in this photo?

Very interesting indeed. The Mosins without dates are few and far between it seems, and I'm sure someone here will know more about them and get back to you with more info if you post this topic in the Collectible Mosin Nagant Rifle section. You can generally always find the date of your rifle on the bottom of the tang once you take the rifle out of the stock. Image

Hi everyone, I just purchased a 37 Izhevsk. This rifle has a ton more markings than the 39 I used to have. It's probably nothing to special comparatively, however I figured I'd put some powder on them and see if anybody notices something interesting I may have missed.

Welcome to the board, I have absolutely no idea what that translation means, you found something buried with a body on your sisters farm? I thought it was illegal for French gun owners to have rifles in military calibers?

I bought my Mosin Nagant last fall (2013) from the Cabela's in Sidney, Nebraska. It's a 1943 Izhevsk. I got it with the bayonet, strap and pouches with the oil can and the tools. I bought a spam can of military surplus 7.62 X 54R from Gander Mtn in Thornton, Colorado. I just recently got another spam can of ammo from bulkammo.com. It's lots of fun to shoot. My first attempts were way off the paper. I'd only been shooting .22 rifles and pistols and was totally unprepared for the recoil. I was resting the rifle on the front end of the barrel to shoot. Now I'm resting it at about the middle of the rifle and I'm doing much better.

Bought a Finnish 1941 M39 Sako from a local collector, and he recommended these forums. I'll post pictures and questions later. I also own an Romanian 1955 M44 that I picked up as an impulse purchase at a gun show - which piqued my interest in these rifles.
