42 Izhevsk 91/30 finn capture.

Post by redspoon »

Won this 91/30 on GB a few weeks ago for $140, just getting it cleaned up and posted. Bore was a little cruddy, but cleaned up well. Shank and tang were
scrubbed but I can make out a faint 1942 above the scrubbed s/n on shank. Stock is void of shellac, but well oiled with that finn concoction that JYD speaks of.
It has the finn spliced forestock. Bolt was completely blued with a nice little eagle on the bolt body. 1 inch counter bore. Not a finn trigger but the pull
seems a little less that my other 91/30's, they also peened the trigger pin, I didn't try to remove it. Nice triple stack front sight. Last shots are of the
only finns in my small collection. Tikka M91 pl, M39 Sako and the finn 91/30. Still the best shooter is the M39.
Any thoughts out there on who blued the bolt, finns or russians?

Wow, you did good. I have never seen a bolt that had the Imperial Russian Crest on it. Sorry to say this but if I had seen it you wouldn't have gotten it for $140.00  .

Probably the Finns that blued the bolt.

Nice rifle, 42 and later dated Finn capture 91/30s aren't common at all.

Fin wax, and the Finns would likely have blued the bolt. Very nice find, and at a good price :vcool: :vcool: :vcool:

For some odd reason, the lion's share of blued bolts that I've seen are all on M91/30 captures. Don't see it on the M91's, M38's, M44's or Dragoons. Hmm....

The placement of the eagle on the bolt reminds me of the Polish Wz.91/98/25, pictured below. Different stamp, though.
