I got the 1934 Izhevsk
I traded one of my 1942izzy (i had 4 of them) for the 1934izzy today at Al's. I was hoping to find a old date on the tang again, but no luck this time. There was no visible date on it. Overall its a nice rifle. I needed to add another hex to my collection anyway. I'll post some pics after work.

We are crazy, imho.
I patiently waited for all the pictures to load and looked at each one carefully.
Why? It is essentially the same as the 1939 Iz 3 feet from me. And you know what? As soon as I press send I'll check another thread and read about more purchases and look for more pictures.
What is it about these rifles?
Very addictive.

Very nice, I was wondering if that stain was from the rifle
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: I got the 1934 Izhevsk
That one is really nice, it has "a look" to it that I can't explain. Just the combination of stock color and early sling escutcheons, combined with the dark metal finish. It has a "look". Makes me think of my '38 Tula, similiar color contrast I think. How's she look in the bore and do you think she will be a good range performer?

Re: I got the 1934 Izhevsk
The bore looks good. Out of all the 91/30's i have all of them have nice bores. 2 have been counter-bored. The ex-sniper I bought in a pawn shop and it had been shot and not cleaned. I worked on it and it looks better. The pu sniper bore didn't look to good when I got it so I sent it home with my brother and he spent some time on it last night and he got it looking like brand new. As far as shooting goes i want to shoot all of them but I'll will probably be shooting the sniper and ex-sniper before I shoot anything else. My brother thinks I wasted my money on the pu sniper. He thinks I should have got a 7mm-08. I would like to prove to him that the old rifle can still shoot good groups. Maybe not as tight as his 7mm-08 sniper rifle but good enough groups.

Re: I got the 1934 Izhevsk
Happy shooting Even rifles with dark bores can surprise you with tight groups, if the erosion is in the grooves and the crown is still tight there is nothing to stop a dark bore rifle from shooting very well, the pits just make cleaning up a chore because they tend to hold in the fouling.

An even up trade for a 42 91/30? Not bad...
Don't ever let a dark bore on a refurb get you down. My M39 has a dark & somewhat worn bore & it can shoot tacks.
you did well.
