1944 91/30
1944 91/30
Found this at my ffl for $350. I understand '44 is a low count year which is kinda cool. But got home and found the c in a circle in the usuall location on the barrel. Has o in a circle at the woodline, and no k in a circle. No filled holes in the receiver either. Is a sniper barrel common for a '44 standard?
Re: 1944 91/30
Not common but it did happen. Production of PU scopes and mounts lagged behind rifle production at times. If a sniper grade rifle was completed and no scope or mount was available it was completed as a standard infantry rifle and sent out the door. It didn't happen very often though and 1944 is a low production year compared to 42 and 43 so that's a uncommon variation you have there, very nice.
Re: 1944 91/30
What makes you think that this is a sniper barrel? I see nothing that would indicate this.

Re: 1944 91/30
Most sniper rifles have a "CH" stamped on them
" There are two kinds of people, the good people and the ones that aggravate the hell out of the good people"
Re: 1944 91/30
Tula was the only one who marked CH on the barrel shank. Izhevsk did not. You can only tell on an Izhevsk if there are repaired scope mount holes or a scope serial number on the left side of the barrel shank or a crossed out number in that location. From what I can tell from the picture above, this is an Izhevsk rifle.
Re: 1944 91/30
Correct, its a numbers matching izhevsk refurb. Just can't find much info for 1944's on google, everything comes up m44's.
Re: 1944 91/30
First let's dispel with the sniper discussion about this rifle. It is not a sniper or an ex sniper unless you can show pictures of the left side of the receiver and barrel shank.
What information are you looking for as it relates to a 1944 Izhevsk? To tell you the truth, other then production numbers, there isn't much difference between these and any other war years rifle with the exception, perhaps, of fit and finish based on short cuts taken to increase production during the war.
Probably the best Mosin Nagant reference today is https://www.m9130.info/
There is some info on 1944 production here: https://www.m9130.info/manufacturers-an ... ion-number

Re: 1944 91/30
No one said it was a sniper rifle or even an ex-sniper rifle and it won't have a scope number stamped on the left side of the barrel because one was never mounted. It's a standard infantry M91/30 that received a "sniper grade barrel" during assembly, probably due to a shortage of scopes and or mounts. The "Circle C" stamp was used by Izhevsk to mark "sniper grade barrels" This mark and the existence of rifles like the OP's are discussed in the PU sniper section of member Ratnik's excellent website. https://www.m9130.info/pu-snipersqz2026 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 11:24 am First let's dispel with the sniper discussion about this rifle. Re: 1944 91/30
Thank you. Maybe he doesnt understand the side arrows on the imugr pics. There is a pic of the side of barrel where there would be a scope serial, if anyone else is having problems
Re: 1944 91/30
The OP called it a sniper barrel which implies that it was the barrel of a sniper which it was not. If he had used sniper grade barrel, there would be no confusion. Yeah you have to be concise anymore. And yes, this is the first time I've seen Imgur pics that can be scrolled here vs. being forced to go to their site. I didn't notice that until something was said.
Anyway, interesting gun..
