Berdan 2 shotgun conversion

Post by racerguy00 »

These never seem to turn up in the US and lucky me had one pop up 5 minutes away. This one was converted at a state-owned arsenal, so is it still a bubba?

Berdan 2 converted to 16 ga in the 20s or 30s, a good link with info is here

This is the only one Ive seen in person, definitely an interesting history

That's an odd duck.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

It makes me wonder why ? They surely had break down and pump shotguns in Russia. Why make one two pounds heavier ? If I could read Russian I might know.

This thing is pretty light. They had lots of these that would have been scrapped otherwise and I assume s single shot for the citizenry was more appealing to the authorities than any sort of repeater. And cost. Cheap to make. A lot of mosins were converted in similar fashion also

When did Russia adopt the HAMMER AND SICKLE ?
It originally featured a sword, but Lenin strongly objected, disliking the violent connotations. The winning designer was Yevgeny Ivanovich Kamzolkin (1885–1957). On 6 July 1923, the 2nd session of the Central Executive Committee (CIK) adopted this emblem.

the mark on the barrel must have been added at the time of the conversion.......not in 1887 as is on the receiver.....

Yes it was added when it was converted after the revolution.
