Fake 44 Iszhevsk? NO IMPORT (update, import mark found)
So yesterday I picked up a refurbished 1944 Izshevsk PU sniper with an undoubtedly original scope, mount, and base. No scope number was ever on the barrel shank however it is proof marked with the C in a circle and has a correct stock for a sniper (not hacked after the fact) I guess I wanna know it’s origins and true authenticity as i paid real money for this rifle. Thanks in advance guys. Again NO IMPORT mark anywhere and NO scope serial number ever stamped on receiver.

All parts on rifle are matching or force matched, scope is not clearly to the rifle.

Re: Fake 44 Iszhevsk? NO IMPORT
Fake, no, appears to have been a PU sniper, the scope doesnt appear to be a match for the mount, and the mount doesn't appear to be a match to the rifle if I am reading the EP'ed markings correct. This could be a resniper, or have been replaced at the arsenal, by the importer, or it might have been bought scopeless and done by a previous owner.
Hard to tell on my phone but it appears the original scope number has been scrubbed.
I will give it a better look this evening when i get home. Can you get better pics of the barrel shank whete the scope number should be, and some more of the scope mount ep'ed numbers and scope rings?
Also check the underside of the barrel by the front sight for and inporter name

Re: Fake 44 Iszhevsk? NO IMPORT
Miller,
Thing that I see as troubling is, no "import marks". I'm assuming this poster is in the USA.
Now I know things like that can happen, but it is usually a sign of a problem.
Maybe a "Classic" early put together, but even they had import marks.
I think it is a "put together" but ....Like you said, maybe a re-sniper.
That left side of the barrel shank sure looks right.
But, where is the import mark? Maybe under the mount and base? or removed?
Questionable in my opinion.
Darryl

I can look again but I swear I couldn’t find an importer. Put together seems most likely but the mount appears to be put on at a factory and not bubbadDarryl wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 11:07 am Miller,

It appears it is indeed import marked. I can only make out the word “COLE”

Re: Fake 44 Iszhevsk? NO IMPORT
Coles Distributing never imported a PU Sniper Rifle. Many Standard M91/30's, but not PU's that I ever remember.
Firsts was Century
Then RGUNS
Then Molot (exporter/importers) which was imported by Inter Ordnance (IO Inc) and Molot both I think
Then all the Tulsky's who were imported by PW Arms, and Inter Ordnance (IO Inc). Both imported the Tulsky exports
But I don't think Coles Distributing imported any PU's. I don't think they ever got a batch sold to them in Russian that I know of.
So, MAYBE a re-sniper from a Coles Distributing standard M91/30 or a reproduction using a Coles Distributing imported M91/30.

Re: Fake 44 Iszhevsk? NO IMPORT
Coles snipers are on gun boards, he imported real ones at first and then fake ones apparently. If this is a fake then it’s a damn good one.Darryl wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 11:31 pm Coles Distributing never imported a PU Sniper Rifle. Many Standard M91/30's, but not PU's that I ever remember.

Re: Fake 44 Iszhevsk? NO IMPORT
Odd place to put the import marking but it sure beats a billboard mark like some rifles got. The rifle is all correct sniper parts, and the shank looks like it has had the scope serial number scrubbed, but with the mount and scope not matching each other or the rifle it is at the very least a sniper that was imported with a busted scope and sold without one, or an ex-sniper that was made back into one stateside.
If the price is cheap enough and you want a range toy it might be OK, but any collectability of the rifle is compromised

Re: Fake 44 Iszhevsk? NO IMPORT
Well, I don't know what to say about a $1,200 price tag.
And to my knowledge, Coles Dist,. never imported PU snipers. He may have sold some real ones that others imported, but not imported them. At least I have never seen one before.
I'd say "ex-sniper that was made back into one stateside".

Re: Fake 44 Iszhevsk? NO IMPORT
Cole Distributing did import ex-PU snipers. I own one.
The lack of scope number stamped into the barrel shank is disturbing. Any Izhevsk PU or ex-PU should have that.

I would agree that Cole Dist. did import ex-snipers, but never PU snipers. People undoubtedly converted Ex-snipers to snipers also.
