Which one to keep.. opinions please
Hi all,
As a follow-up to my last post on starting collections, if I HAD to divest but wanted to keep just one, which would you choose:
(assume all VG unless stated)
Izh M44 1943 with hand-fitted stock
Izh 1943 91/59 minty
Yula 1905 M91 Finn capture with crests still intact, GC original leather sling
Tula 1932 ex-dragoon triple date
Tula 1944 M44 hex
Izh 1930 ex dragoon 3x date with restrike 1899 Tula tang (restruck as Izh 1930)*
Tula 1944 M38 hex
Izh 1933 ex-dragoon superb stock
Izh 1934 ex-dragoon red letters with matching bayonet
Tula 1927 ex-dragoon with bayonet
Izh 1943 2x MO date, laminate, with bayonet
Polish 1956 .22 trainer
1955 M53 with accessories
Izh 1943 PU sniper with original war stock, all matching authentic
Thinking of keeping the *, 27 Tula to shoot, the PU and 1943 M44 due to coolness factor. That's keeping 4 instead of 1, but hey it's a compromise Which would you keep?
Have fun

Re: Which one to keep.. opinions please
Personally I would keep the PU everything else being equal.
I had a nice 43 PU once. Traded it, and did well on the trade. But it was a NICE rifle and I do kinda miss it...
But some of this might also depend on how much cash I needed to free up, too.

Thanks Tn, I missed every one I let go, so I suppose that won't be a factor now :(

I normally don’t get too sentimental over stuff I have parted with but that PU is one small exception!Riva9999 wrote:Thanks Tn, I missed every one I let go, so I suppose that won't be a factor now :(
Best of luck to you whatever you choose!

m91, but I really love the m91. If you could manage to hold a second, the PU. For me that covers the m91/30 & PU category well enough. If you can squeek out a third, the wz.48 but only because I got a thing for Polish firearms right now and that one is a good economical way to go shooting.

Just the thought of selling any of these is depressing me. Sell the kids to an Arab and get the wife a job.

Sell excess organs, contract murder for hire, become the next Walter White, whatever, don't sell the guns.

leave the gun..take the cannoli.......
Re: Which one to keep.. opinions please
I'm fascinated by the lengthy history and arsenal markings of M91s. It would be an easy choice for me to keep the 1905.
Re: Which one to keep.. opinions please
This kind of a question will probably get responses that are all over the board. Me... personally... The Tula Hex M-38 would be my choice. I'd also have a difficult time letting the Hex M-44 go, as well. The thing is that we all have different views and collecting philosophies (too big a word without another cup of coffee...). I've been slowly cutting my collection back too. I, too, am at the point where what's left is kind of difficult to let go. And, there's plenty left Maybe you should look at it from the perspective of selling them off piece-meal starting with your "less favorites" I think in the other thread you were talking about selling the entire collection at once. Dennis Kroh told me recently that he was giving 70-75 cents on the dollar. You may want to reach out to him.

Re: Which one to keep.. opinions please
The M44 Hex and M38 Hex are going to be the hardest rifles to find if you ever want to replace them ever.
Closely followed by the M91/59
But the most money wise will be the PU sniper. It will cost you to replace it dearly. And, I will predict, unless there are another batch of snipers coming in to the US, sniper rifles will start to climb even more in price.
Myself, I never sell anything. I may after I retire.

SIMPLE!!!!!
One of that
One of those
One of them
One of this one
One of that one
One of these ones
One more for good measure
One more after that
And one more + one just because you can!
This here is the US of A... Have as many as you want and no one can tell you different.
Never, not ever think you can only have ONE!!

But seriously, Focus on thinning the herd, not demolishing it.
I would break it down to this group & then see what you think. I personally prefer the carbines.

The PU absolutely! I feel like those are sought after by far more than just collectors. You don't have to know anything about a Mosin to want an Authentic PU.
