1903A1 National Match

Post by Cj556 »

I stopped into Cabelas for a bathroom break during a 4 hour drive. Then I proceeded to their gun library and saw a peculiar 1903 rifle with a presentation plaque on the butt. The 1903A1 stock and plaque had my heart racing a bit, sure enough it had a bright bolt with an electro penciled matching bolt. The gun also had PJ OHare sight covers and upon removing the front cover I saw the star gauge. The gun was priced at $1500 and labeled simply as a 1903 Springfield and I decided to take it home with me. The rifle was presented to Captain Richard Nott of the NY National Guard in 1939, he was an ambulance driver in WW1 with the Italian army and was also a veteran of the Second World War. In the 1930s he shot with the NY Guard rifle team and was quite good at that. He was also a prominent member of Kennebunkport Maine. This guns serial number is listed in the DCM Sales records as a 1903A1 Match. I am quite fortunate to own this rifle and it holds a very special place in my collection.

Very nice indeed.
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Cabelas buys stock from local gun shops, pawn shops and individual collections. We have sold a few from our local Cabelas.
