MLE 1889/16
MLE 1889/16
Picked this up for what I would call cheap. In pretty good condition. Was able to pick it up instead of ship which was nice as I was able to visit a great bullet maker supplier which turned out was across the street. Crest is a faint ETAT BELGE BIRMINGHAM.

Excellent grouping of rifles!
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Very cool!! The bore and crown on this one is awesome. First thing I thought is that some reloading will occur in short order...

Thanks Tom, I was looking for projectiles to use for French 7.5. Have some testing to do for differences in boat tail verses flat base 150s. I have heard bad things about the boat tails being all over the place in mas36, but first up is mas49/56. Got one of those starmetal gas valves for it.qz2026 wrote:Very cool!! I did also pick up some 150s .311 which is the small package there for the Belgian/argy/peru family

Re: MLE 1889/16
Quite common on these to find them in matching except bolt. This is one of those as you can see the stock was a repurposed long rifle stock. Originaly a Birmingham long rifle that was redone as a 1916 (carbine) short rifle. The band spring was plugged and the bottom nose spring was also plugged when added and the stock was stamped to match. This was advertised as having a stuck slider, which it did and that is why the wetness around the sight. However it was just a little rust and has been fixed rather easy with a little pb blaster and a brass bore brush. I guess the stuck slider scared all the bidders away cause there was only one other bidder. Some good buys are out there if you are lucky.

Very nice, Brad! I have one that looks like its cousin. Haven't shot it yet though. Have you had a chance to slug the bore yet?
Re: MLE 1889/16
Nope, down the road for this one. Right in the middle of French testing and getting ready for hunting so it will be a while till I get to this one. What did yours slug out to?
