New guy from Kansas
New guy from Kansas
Hi folks, New guy from Kansas. I purchased this rifle a couple of years ago and I don't really know what I have. Rifling seems pretty good with some pitting. I haven't shot it yet and not sure what I want to do with it. Right now I just want to learn more. All help appreciated.

Or an M-44 (1st yr made en mass) or a M-38 (last yr made.) If it's 91/30, not many made? You now have a condition known as Mosinitis.

Re: New guy from Kansas
Welcome to the forum. I am going to say you most likely have a refurbished 91-30 but a full picture will tell for sure. If a m44 it should have a permanently attached folding bayonet. You are wise to take the time to step back and study what you have. These are a real piece of WWII history and there are unique circumstances that allowed these to even be made available in such great condition. While the modern rifle hunting crowd or plastic rifle shooters often see these as ugly old beaters to refinish and customize, we see the real beauty and workmanship put into these during terrible times of war and poverty. Any type of refinishing ruins the collector value.

Looks like a 91/30 to me. Izhevsk Arsenal dated 1944. Nothing wrong with that.

The one picture that is blurred is marked M 91-30 and Russia Ser#0128775, I am not sure what all that means but I am sure I will find out. Bob
