Bolt head question...while trying to solve hard to open bolt
I noticed this bolt head of a 91/30 I just got is different from others I have. See below. Common?

Re: Bolt head question...while trying to solve hard to open
I looked on Liberty Tree Collectors at replacement heads and they showed both types. Reason for the differences is beyond me, but it appears that they came both ways. Maybe someone smarter will be able to answer why.
ETA: One site said that the one with the bigger groove is pre-war, the other being war-time. Whether this is true or not I don't know.

I have noted the differences many times but for the life of me I never saw any difference in the way they worked. Bill ![Surprised :o](./images/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif)

The one on the right may be an older design, I think I see a big hammer stamp on it that would make it pre-1928. Do they match the gun they came out of? SBP

The left is from a '44 M44 and the right a '43 91/30 sniper bolt.
