Carbine Rainbow

Post by SA1911a1 »

The carbine gods have been good to me this year. These have come to me recently. Some you have seen and some you haven't. I never set out to collect Mosin-Nagant carbines. However, I have been hanging out in some unsavory places like small gun shops, sleazy pawn shops, lousy gun shows, and spent some time on Bun Groper, I mean Gun Broker. I do not seek them out, but they sometimes seek me out. Finding the Hungarian yesterday inspired me to take some of the carbines down for a dusting and lusting. When laid them out, they presented a study in colors and finishes I thought you all might like to peruse.

The Soviet guns are all Izhevsk. A Tula carbine has totally escaped me and I have yet to see one anywhere face to stock.

While I have bought some unsavory, mismatched, and heavily worn carbines this grouping is all matching and all in pristine shape.

Nice stash. I know how you feel about these carbines. I didn't initially wish to collect these but soon found that I was addicted to them. Doesn't matter if they are EEuro, Chinese, Russian, Finn captures, or the elusive 91/38's or 91/59's. Even Molots and the newer Tulsky's from Tula are fair game for me or were anyway. I don't buy too many any longer except when I see a nice one for a good price.

Nice grouping of Mosins, I remember when you swore on your life that you would never collect Finn's or never collect this and that.....how long ago did you pass away? I forget. :) Soon you will have that problem that hits all of us who collect heavily, room, always a lack of room, in the safe, then the vault, then the hard room, then the bunker, then you are living outside in a tent because everything else is full of guns.

I bought a couple of them several years ago, sent one to Brad in a swap, and kept one. Now the trick will be finding a really nice one. That is something I have yet to see on the loose.

Thanks Jim,

When I came here, five or six years ago, I was as pure as the driven snow. I had all of the Mosins I wanted; five refurbs. I came here to learn about them. I told you that all I was interested in was getting a couple of more, and only Izhevsk 91/30s. I was a lying bastage, I just didn't know it at the time. You, Brad, Matt, Russel, Darryl, Chuck, Erik, Mark, Cliff, Bruce, Todd, and a bunch of others that have come and gone were successful in brainwashing me. I am now driven to own every milsurp I come in contact with. Not only have you ruined me, but I have passed it on to my son, who is nutzoids over 1911s and antique S&W wheel guns.

Now that I have also discovered Mausers, and they will probably be my ruin...(does anyone have a clue how many varieties of them there are?)

I quit drinking, smoking and running around with loose women, and I intend to kick this habit too. The clock is running to retirement (about a thousand days, but who's counting?) which will put the kibosh on buying and I will start the habit of selling off all of these rusty relics that y'all make me buy, and I will not use the proceeds to buy any more guns. I might just start back drinking, smoking and running around with wild women cause then, I could afford it!

Retirement will only provide you with more free time to hit gun shows. Variety's of Mauser? How many stars in the heavens? Nobody ever finishes collecting every variety of Mauser, the human lifespan simply isn't long enough yet for that.

You need to by Ball's book of Mausers. If you can buy or even find all the Mausers in there you can be the uber Mauser collector. It ain't cheap but it is great.

I had a sick feeling in my gut when I purchased my first Mauser because I knew what it would lead to... And it's true. Mauseritis is just as bad as Mosinitis. The good news is that I have been able to control myself with the German K-98 rifles - because they are so expensive and I don't care much for anything Nazi.

And, if you are interested in the ultimate Mauser, you should purchase Argentine Mauser Rifles 1871-1959 by Webster. Not cheap but an amazing reference. Good Mauser porn too :D

Ain't Milsurps fun?

I am with you on both points. I don't care for anything Nazi and I have two gorgeous M-91s and Webster's book. And also, yes it is fun!

My 1916 (Pre Nazi) German weapon is enough for me. I only got it because Russians used a lot of them.

I have spent enough collecting Mosins (and Russian Contract Weapons) and it looks like I won't branch out. Actually nothing else really interests me.

BTW, nice carbines. I hope you have the luck to snag a 91/38 at a reasonable price.

I have not seen a 91/38 in this end of the country. But, sooner or later....

I love my 1944 tula m44, on the right. I stumbled across it on gun broker. Placed a low bid and was the only bidder on a no reserve auctuon. Great collection btw

The only Nazi era K98's in my collection were both collected from "good" Nazi's, one by the Soviets, the other by GI Joe in 1945.

Such a nice collection. I've been around a few years now, and am still amazed at what you guys find. I have a pretty good selection of rifles now. But the quality of most still cannot compare to what you guys have. I still enjoy the ones I have immensely. But always looking to upgrade.
All that being said, whenever you guys feel like cashing in some of these retirement fund rifles, don't forget ol' catcracker.

I like round numbers, for instance $10,000, $100,000, $1,000,000 I have a rifle for each of these three price ranges    I love my milsurps, to get them away from me would require a truly impressive number
