D mark

Post by NLMosin »

I did some reading around and the D mark was put on by the Finns after capture. At least thats what I read. This one has a D mark but no [SA] anywhere on it. Pretty common I'm guessing. Anyone know what the 6 is? I thought maybe it was a partial stamp of the 3600. There is also a 4 stamp that may be partial 41 stamp. If not was wondering if they are just some of the mucho random marks or if there is a meaning. Thanks! This is the first mosin I bought in months. Serial number is a bit ominous...

That don't look like a Finn D stamp to me.....looks more like a refurb mark stamped heavy on the left side. Makes more sense when it doesn't have the SA stamp. The 6 and the 4 are :bs.gif: some o' them mystery marks..... :2cents: SBP

The photo could be better, but from here, it looks like 1/2 of a Ukranian refurbishment mark.

Agree its a partial refurb mark.

Here is a D mark on a 32 I own, a rounded D, not square. It also has many other Finn traits.

Finn traits like the 41 visible on the bolt side above the date?

The more I scan the web for 'D's' the more different varieties i find. Here's one that is less rounded.

Still think you're right about the refurb square with line through. I'll know when I see it. Which could be awhile as the shipper hasn't said when yet.

There are Finn traits like a Finn spliced two piece stock, The hole in the bottom of the stock below the cleaning rod nut, Serial on the bolt knob. The more obvious marks like the [SA], 41 and D marks.
Sometimes it what isn't there, If this is a Finn rifle it will not have the updated rear pin added to the rear sight.

The vast majority of Finn imports came in before the large billboard import marks were used.
