In my biased opinion, any Garand is a nice rifle.

vblue42 wrote:I did contact the store in Anniston which is also 10 hours round trip from me. Unfortunately they only have rack, field and special grade available. I can't quite swallow 995.00 for a special grade and I wanted a better condition then rack or field grade. I would have loved to travel to hand pick a service grade.
Don't let the term field grade scare you. I have a SA field grade that shoots great. Everything about it says it souldn't shoot good. MW is a 3 and the TE is a 5. The trigger guard lockup isn't even what I would consider okay. But it will hold black at 200 yards. Now this isn't normal and your mileage may vary.

I also have an HRA that is prestine with MW of 0 and TE of 1+. It shoots nice also but I just love the feel of the well used SA.

I own quite a few guns. I often tell people that if the State ever decides to confiscate every gun I have except one, I would keep my Garand, it is by far my favorite gun. It is the gun that literally (along with the brave GIs that used it) saved the world from evil. They are a blast to shoot and they hold a special place for me.

It's a '54 HRA and all of the exterior visible parts are HRA. The flash exaggerates the color difference between op rod and receiver. In normal light, you don't even notice the difference.

Well, today I finally got the shipping conformation on my M1. It will be here tomorrow. Per the serial it appears to be a Springfield Armory built in January of '45. Can't wait to get my hands on it and post some pics. I also finally was able to purchase a 1903A3 yesterday and will have it in my hands sometime after September 5th. Stay tuned!
