I Scored Again, Big Time For Me

Post by The Bolt Man »

Today I went to a gun show on set-up afternoon as a member. I purchased two 9130's.

One is a 1923 Tula with a 1923 Tula Hex receiver. Very nicely marked and great looking metal as most of the refurbs are. The bore is well frosted but plenty strong enough that it would probably shoot ball ammo fairly well. Lots of Izhevsk parts on it and a WW 2 style stock. Bayonet doesn't match the serial number.

The second 9130 is a 1930 Izhevsk with a 1930 Izhevsk Hex receiver. I consider 9130's with matching date barrels and receivers a good find. The bore of this 1930 Izhevsk is absolutely mint. Bright and shiny throughout. Not the slightest hint of any frosting. This is the best Mosin Nagant bore I have seen so far. The bore shows only light use and the throat is very slightly rounded at the start of the rifling. This rifle has all Izhevsk parts that I can see. The stock is another WW 2 style. Bayonet doesn't match the serial number. This rifle has had very little use and was well cared for. I look forward to shooting this great piece of history.

I will post pictures as soon as I can.

Mismatched barrel and receiver dates are not common, they come from reused older receivers, or year end rifles that were using last years dated receivers on this years dated barrel. Sounds like you had a productive day :)
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I posted a couple pics last night of this exact same thing wanting some input. So you are saying they are not common, but could happen in production?

Yeah, I've got a 1941 Izhevsk with a barrel that looks like it could be played like a record, with an early Hex receiver, date unknown since the date guy missed big time. Then I've got a 1944 Tula that has a prewar round receiver. Can't remember the date on that one, I wanna say 36 or 38. They used what they had on hand.

I've never been to a gun show period... guess I might have to hit up the two we have that are fairly close to us just to check them out. I've heard so much about hassles with carrying your CCW into them and just being overpriced dealer's looking to gyp you that I never made the effort to drive up to St. Charles or down to Cape Girdardeau or Farmington. Might have to take a break and if nothing else use it as an excuse for the wife and I to get out of the house!
