What was your first?
Re: What was your first?
My first was a "sporterized" 1945 Izhevsk M44. It was my Dad's and we knew it as the "Russian rifle". I had no idea what it was until he passed and I inherited it. He might have brought it back from Korea. Except for the modified stock and bayonet lug it was all original and never refurbed. I did the best I could to bring it back with a replacement stock, front sight/bayonet lug and bayonet. It shoots very well.

Re: What was your first?
Well lets see. I was in the Marines at Camp Lejeune at the time. I had seen my first rifle at my buddy's house before and told him I've always wanted one of them. When he was getting out he decided he didn't want it anymore so he asked if id buy it off of him. At first he wanted a ton for it but eventually he gave it to me for $100. It is a 1939 91/30 Izhevsk arsenal in a laminated stock. Its not matching but I love it to death. I knew nothing about them when I bought it and I found this site. Started talking to Buckeyesgt and the rest is history. =)
Re: What was your first?
Well I was young, a mere 14......
Whoops, you meant mosin. .......37 Izhevsk or something like that. Then a m39 directly behind that and then another m39 directly behind that (B barrel). For all you late guys you could order the m39s from the distributers back then for a paltry $229. I only bot 2 though.

My first is a 1943 Izhevsk with a laminated stock. Picked up up right when the mad rush started in December last year. (Was hemming and hawing for a long time before that, figured I should grab one while it was still on the shelf!)

Mine was 1937 Izhevsk that I selected out of about 15 on display at cabela's. Knowing only that they were refurbished milsurps used in WWII, I selected a better looking one. Thinking back, I know I left a 1946 91/30 and a 1930 Izhevsk there that day. ![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)

Re: What was your first?
My first Mosin was a 1943 Izhevsk 91/30. I had been interested in the Mosin Nagant for a while. One day in July last year I was at a gun show and struck up a conversation with a small dealer. In his rack of firearms was this Mosin Nagant. I picked it up and liked it so I bought it. I have since then purchased 3 or 4 more firearms from him. Here we are, roughly 16 months later and my 30th Mosin Nagant rifle is scheduled to be delivered today!

My first was my 43 Izhevsk. Just a basic refurb. It was also my first rifle. Wanted something affordable and fun to shoot. The history and mystery behind them drew me too them even more ![big grin ](./images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Let me make a short, open, blanket comment. There are no good guns. There are no bad guns. Any gun in the hands of a bad man is a bad thing. Any gun in the hands of a descent person is no threat to anyone--- except bad people. -- Charleton Heston
Guns are not good, they are not evil. Save those descriptions for the people holding the firearm. -- Unknown
1943 Izhevsk
1937 Izhevsk
1935/48/50 Tula (hex)
1939 Tula (laminate stock)
And many other firearms![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Re: What was your first?
1942 Izhevsk. Took several posts here to determine (guess) at the date. The majority of the barrel date was scrubbed but could make out "194 ". No tang date but the barrel, receiver and tang were pretty rough so we decided jointly that it was a wartime 42 even though not in the correct stock. Very nice rifle with tons of stock cartouches, metal stamping and bolt stampings. Relatively deep counterbore with a very nice barrel behind it. This will never get sold, by me anyway.

1927 Izhevsk ex dragoon all matching.
Re: What was your first?
Got my first Mosin when I was 22, shortly a full year ago
A gentleman who frequented the gunsshop/indoor range i work at brought a bunch of stuff in on consignment(vepr AK, mini 14, ptr91 etc). I happened to ask him if he had anything else (older) that he would sell. He mention he had garands, enfields, a few Finn's, but the only gun at the time he was looking to let go was a 91/38. He told me a bit about it, I said i would contemplate it. Did my research over the next few weeks and got really intrigued. Ended up buying a 1904 dated Izhevsk Czech M91/38 for $300 as a Christmas gift to myself. Since last December I have added quite a few firearms to my collection, sadly only one being a mosin, Finn capture 91/30 i got early this month.

Well, you have one of the more rare Mosin's in the 91/38. I've got a ton of Mosins by my '02 91/38 remains my favorite. What a story... "the only one willing to let go is the 91/38..." Damn, that would be the last one I would let go. Anyway, you got it for a steel.
Re: What was your first?
My first and only is a '34 Tula which I purchased a couple months ago as a birthday gift to myself.
I've wanted a Mosin Nagant rifle for many years for a few reasons.
1) I'm a big fan of Call of Duty (started playing when the first PC version came out, circa 2003)
2) I'm a big fan of Russian technology (I owned an '87 Lada wagon and now own a '91 Lada wagon)
3) I'm a big fan of history
4) I have a limited gun buying budget and liked the fact I could get an MN for $150 and 400 rounds of milsurp ammo for $99
When I have my "OMG, I'm 50 !!" midlife crisis two years from now, I plan to buy myself an SVT-40 which, in Canada, are easy to find and relatively inexpensive. Heck, it's way cheaper than a divorce or a sports car !!
Cheers !!

Re: What was your first?
Mines was a 1904 ex dragoon with the eagles still intact I bought simultaneously with a INSPECTIE marked m44
Re: What was your first?
Friend adopted some kid and wanted them out of his house so he sold both the rifles to me cheap
Re: What was your first?
He wasnt very attached to it. Im assuming he paid little and never did much with it. He appreciated my knowledge of other historical firearms and of history in general and figured it would be a cherished member of my collection. He later on sold two spam cans of albaian brass cased for 140 for both. Great guy and now friend.qz2026 wrote:![]()

Re: What was your first?
In the early '80s I was kicking around a LGS looking for something in my price range. Hanging on the wall was a 91, though I didn't know what it was at the time. The price tag was $35 which was in my price range. The proprietor liked me for some reason and threw in 100 rds of ammo for another $5. He explained there was no paper work to fill out because the 1893 date made it an antique and the odd rear sight was calibrated in paces, not yards or meters. Also as there was no soviet markings he guessed it came into the country as a WW1 souvenir, but that was just a guess. No, I don't still have it.
Re: What was your first?
Mine was a 1940 Tula in a pre war stock I picked out of a crate after a did a little research on this site.
It still suffers from a sticky bolt despite everything I have done. It is dead nuts accurate though.
