Gun Vise- figured I needed one.
Gun Vise- figured I needed one.
So now having (only) four guns I figured it was time for a gun vise. But with all the different ones I didn't know which to choose. Plus I didn't feel like spending money on it, then I remembered that I have a wood shop and a bunch of wood. So with a little poking around I have come up with this. note its not quite done I have some finishing to do and a few small parts to get.

Re: Gun Vise- figured I needed one.
thats almost exactly how i did mine only i put an edge all the way around it then put some plexi glass on the bottom so i didn't get cleaners or whatever all over the wood..nice job
Re: Gun Vise- figured I needed one.
Wow you are the handy one with wood! I can drive a nail or two on a good day! I have two rifle vises but I find I use neither one at all so they are covered with crap as a result. If you are organised and talented enough to build one like that I would suspect you will unlike me use it. Kudos a very nice job! Bill ![thumbsup ](./images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

Nice job, get some felt from the craft store and pad all the areas were the rifles stock will come in contact with the wood of the vice, prevent scratches before they happen.

Re: Gun Vise- figured I needed one.
Nice. I bought mine and paid 50 bucks for it! You saved a lot of money I bet.
Re: Gun Vise- figured I needed one.
so far I have spent about $10 and soon a little more for the felt.
it pays to have a wood shop and a bunch of extra wood laying around.

Re: Gun Vise- figured I needed one.
my next project will be a gun cabinet to display all my guns. I am in the process of research and development of it now. I need something to do during the winter when I can't mountain bike and can't get to the range as much as I would like.

Re: Gun Vise- figured I needed one.
I had my 10 gun collection in a gun cabinet back in about 1985 and it was a great display. As a matter of fact when thieves broke my door down to steal, they were a easy target, seeing as how they were displayed and all. I suggest forgetting about a display style cabinet and opt for lock and key. Unless you live in Fort Knox
Re: Gun Vise- figured I needed one.
the vise is nearing completion. I have made most of the edges all nice, I just have to rout out some part holes in the base. Picked up all the padding I need so the guns won't get scratched. going to work on it tonight so i might get to staining it.

Display cabinets are not a good idea, it gathers all your firearms in one convenient, and easy to access place for the burglar.

In all honesty my gun vise has been buried in project boxes so long I can remember what it looks like!
