Re: cleaning colors from sight marks
For photos, I'll put some white crayon on the barrel shank markings. Usually during the first shooting after that, I'll just wipe it down with a rag while the barrel is still warm and it will all come off. If it doesn't, Hoppes and a soft brush takes care of it pretty easily. I'd use chalk but don't...

Re: made up sniper? think so
There were no PU snipers in 1939 so for sure, not authentic. Many people have created fake snipers over the years and this certainly looks to be one of those. The font on the barrel shank seems odd to me but that could just be me, doesn't seem quite right.

Re: Neck sizing
I use the Lee dies for FL resizing but use the RCBS for neck sizing both .308 & .311 mosin rounds. Can't compare it to the Lee collet neck sizers but the RCBS works very well.

Re: 1935 Finnish Mosin with vki stamp
I have a 1935 Finnish Mosin Nagant with vki stamped on the barrel my understanding is there were only 400 made that year at that plant I've had this gun for 25 or 30 years and I just started doing some research on it if you need anybody tell me if I am correct and what the value of it might be it d...

Re: Radom VIS 35 - Early War
I wonder if the gold color is not a failed finish process. Like the plum colored parts one sees from time to time. The plum color is caused by out of kilter bluing chemical mixes, and/or different alloy mixes in the steel. Perhaps this barrel had both. Hence gold. Hard to say what has happened to a...

Re: Radom VIS 35 - Early War
That was my first thought as well. I hit it with Hoppes and a brass brush but it was duly unimpressed. It certainly doesn't feel like grease to the touch either.entropy wrote:Actually, I thought it was dried grease.

Re: Radom VIS 35 - Early War
Nice example of a Radom! They are a joy to shoot. Thanks entropy! I'm really enjoying this one so far. Can't wait to get it back out to the range on Saturday. Do you have any idea about the gold-ish coloring on the barrel? That's got me a bit stumped. I haven't seen a photo of another Vis barrel wi...

Re: Bought My Second Mosin. Pictures Included.
Thanks for the pics, the old girl looks pretty good! For the money, it would have been hard to pass up that ex-dragoon. I'll second what Dolk said above about photobucket. The quality of their service kept deteriorating with all of the adds they were feeding to the point it was barely a usable servi...

Re: Bought My Second Mosin. Pictures Included.
Next you need to find an m91. I love shooting those so much more than the 91/30s. Why? For me, just seems to be a lighter shooter. It's a bit heavier so sucks up the recoil a bit more, though I'm sure the slightly longer barrel also helps with that. For my eyes, I actually like the older style sigh...

Re: Bought My Second Mosin. Pictures Included.
Yup, 29 would make it an exdragoon. Had a couple Izhevsk exdragoons but never a Tula. Congrats on the new rifle. Send a range report when you get the old girl out! Next you need to find an m91. I love shooting those so much more than the 91/30s.

Re: Bought My Second Mosin. Pictures Included.
Hold on a second here... you bought your first Mosin in the spring and your just NOW getting around to getting another one??? Just kidding :D I can't see your photos due to photobucket wanting ransom money to allow 3rd party hosting. The rifle sounds interesting, probably best that it came home with...

Re: Radom VIS 35 - Early War
Made in occupied Poland, Polish troops then fought w/ Germany against Russia? Is that correct? Yes, after the occupation and up until very late in the war all of the parts (except the barrel) were made at Radom and shipped as parts kits to Steyr in Austria. Steyr made the barrels and did the final ...

Radom VIS 35 - Early War
I've been looking for one of these in good condition for a while now. I was bidding on one but it wound up going for more than I was willing to spend but I made sure the other guy really-really wanted it. I had this one sitting as my backup in case i lost the auction. She might have been 2nd place b...

Re: 1947 Izhevsk PU: real or fake?
Both of the 1947 non-PU's in the showcase are both in the AA serial block, which yours doesn't fall in. Miller Tyme has a 47 PU as well but I can't find a link to his photos for that one so can't see whether it falls into a similar serial block. It looks pretty good but like Dolk said, it's hard to ...

Re: 1947 Izhevsk PU: real or fake?
One thing I've noticed about these electropenciled ones, None seem to have the CH stamp on the receiver. Do all original PU's have this stamp? I'm just going by 80-100 rifles I've seen pics of. Tula was the only one that did the CH stamp on the barrel shank. Sometimes there would be a "C"...

Re: Is this a PTG rifle ?
What are these selling for these days ? Don't plan on selling mine, just curious. I recently parted with my 1917 PTG (with a JSE capture stamp) for $450 to a friend of mine. I needed the money to fund something I wanted more. The Balkan ones probably won't get into that territory simply because the...

Nice ATI import! Is that receiver as plum as it looks in the photos? Can't wait to hear the range report on it!
