Re: Miss fires on my 1928 M91/30

One of the major reasons I stick to surplus ammo besides the price is I have had inconsistent new ammo and yes some of it was S&B. Just because its new doesn't mean its good and always the same. Bill :o

Re: Confused with my 1928 M91/30

Most Finn ones are mutts, so not original as in factory original. But in dragoon configuration they've been selling.in the $400 range where I am. I got a Finn ex-dragoon for a little less recently even though those are even more uncommon. I have a lot of Finn Dragoons and generally they are priced ...

Re: Bubba dragoon

I have an 1899 Izhevsk [SA] Dragoon... It was found at a gunshow without furniture. I then found a nice Finn 91/30 stock for sale and brought it back. It's a grey area; But I'm not trying to hump it & pretend it's something it's not... Just trying to get it back from the grips of bubba. It's no...

Re: My mosin: can it be restored?

No it cannot be restored. The barrel has been cut in length, the front sight has been replaced with an aluminum based one using an old 03 sight for a pin, and sometimes the bolt arm is heated and bent too. As someone above said it was once the length of an m91 model Mosin and once it is cut for a sp...

Re: Ruined my Mosin?

I ordered a new firing pin. My seems slightly bent. Not sure if maybe this is what's causing all of this. Super irritating though to follow instructions on youtube to make a rifle better and end up with a much worse rifle after an hour or so. I've seen more false information on youtube than correct...

Re: Polish m44 query

You would alsways be able to see it. Restoring it is a problem for me. I would not want to have to decide to do it or not. It's a tossup. It's not a "prime" collectors piece and never will be. But it would make a hell of a shooting rifle. That's for sure. And beautiful. Dolk It may not be...

Re: NEW discrepancies

I don't ever recall seeing welded loops or brazed loops on any Mosin rifles Finnish or otherwise. Years ago Kevin Carney showed me a rifle with a welded circle in the sling slots but he thought it to be a Bubba option even though it came from Century that way he said. It also had a welded circle att...

Re: Finish MN dated 1941

Normal Finnish modification to the front sight. I have had it explained to me that they felt the full circle Russian globe sight shaded the pin of the sight too much so they cut it back and still kept the protective aspects of the sight sides there. Remember the M27 and all the models it evolved int...

Re: NEW discrepancies

I have often seen hangers like that on much travelled rifles. Finn, Balkan, Austrian, or Spanish take your choice or the last choice someone over here put the rifle together with them? I don't have an undisputable answer as does likely anyone else. First thing take two locking pliers and grab both s...

Re: Polish m44 query

A nice complete matching Polish M44 would bring between $600 to $800 around here. With the fake bent bolt I would ,say maybe $300 to $500. I think Jim the bolt man is still around and he used to make them straight again years ago for around $100 or so. Me I got my example many years ago for $225 at ...

Re: Go no go gauges

Forgetting is just a frustrating part of the ageing process and i'm afraid to tell you it gets worse as you get older. I have to keep double checking myself all the time. Mosins are for sure not often found to have bad headspace but it only takes one to get you! Bill :o

Re: 91/30 Receiver - Ad.Mz.Deutsch.R.

A German provided receiver used by the Finns to make their version of the Russian M91/30. Only made for 2 years I believe and I would say worth from $375 to $500 these days on this inflated market which is really not moving much at current prices. When common refurbs are costing as much as this coll...

Re: Official torque numbers

Old timer like JYD and never have used a torque measuring screwdriver or anything like it on a milsurp rifle. Used torque wrenches for years building engines where you need them and have metal to metal screwed joints but it seems ludicrous to me to use them on wood and metal screwed joints. Many tim...

Re: M39 in pristine condition ??

30 or 40 years ago when I first started collecting Finnish Mosins there were a bunch of pristine VKT M39's about from the mid 40's. I had many that seemed to be similar to what you describe but I often because they were so nice decided to not shoot them. Heck that was no fun so I started going in th...

Re: M28 ski trooper sling

Oval buckle brown leather or sometimes grey blue Finnish leather sling with black or brown leather dog collars is what I have seen for the most part on them. Really the Finns used whatever they could find so nothing per say is really wrong on them. Remember they were a really early M28 so things mor...

Re: M28 not "D" stamped

Slug the bore and check the ammo surplus or otherwise to ,try and get it close to the bore size. I stick to an old unfindable Yugo and Albanian ammo which is close to some of the Finnish 308 bores. It is close to 309 and seems to have worked fine for me for the last 30 or 40 years I have found and s...

There is no Mosin ban. There are restrictions on imports from Russia still, I think, but I think they are still being brought in from the Ukraine. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
