Re: Assistance with a 1944 Izhevsk "Sniper"

ATI imported some snipers via Germany back in 2010. Story was, Russian police snipers sold to germany as hunting rifles. The stock finish looks like one of those. Under the handguard and on the bolt head will be a modern proof marks and all the info lazer etched on the barrel. They were in Tulsky ma...

Re: M27 Front Sight Drifted Left

Take the handguard off and see if the barrel is tight up against the stock in one place. If it is it will effect the barrel harmonics. This is why the Finns shimmed the relief cut the stock. The barrel should have room around it and only barely touch the wood at the muzzle under the band. Have you h...

Maybe make it a requirement for showcases to be uploaded. There are many dead photos in the showcase.

Awesome rifle, stories like this are what give the rest of us hope in finding these rifles in local shops.

Re: Fake sniper

At $400 you didnt get ripped off for a repo sniper. The only issue is if the seller was selling it, and described it as a real one.

As a collector I wouldn't want it but I too have been burned by buying a rifle I thought was something it wasn't. Live and learn.

Re: Help!

This came from from Finland and never saw Korea. Other Mosins may have but not this one. It has been in the US since the 1950s if it has no import mark, if it has one then it came in the late 1980s Your grandpa likey purchased it for next to nothing. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y143/lees99f150/...

Re: Help!

These were sold from Finland to the US for commercial use. The first batch the Finns sold in the 1950s were their oldest and most obsolete. Like the winchester 1895s, Dragoons and the worst condition m1891. The bulk of them came in the late 1980 and 90s and then the last few in the early 2000s There...

Re: Help!

The finns only cared about matching the bolt to the barrel. Either on the knob or the flat and not always the whole number but just the last 4 digits.
Sometimes during refub they ground off the mag or butt plate numbers. not very often though.

Re: Help!

It is a Dragoon. Came here to the US from Finland.

Looks in good condition so likely went through a light/mild post war refurbishment. Do the numbers match as i see it has the correct solid barrel bands?

Re: Original Dragoon???

Dragoons, depending on overall condition will cost $350+, but in an auction can go for more. Original matching parts, dragoon handguard with solid or button bands all increase the collectability and therefore the price.

Do you have any photos of the whole rifle?

Cabelas is the worst to use to compare gun prices. They are known for being way too high and generally all over the place because they don't know what it is.

Yeah, i have been following what he is selling. It's a shame all that collecting work gets sold off for cash but I guess that will happen to most of our collections.
Not everyone love theses rifles and would prefer the money, luckily for us.

Re: SCW 91/30 with a twist

Have you ever found a serial number on a scw bolt, mag or butt plate that matched another scw rifles barrel serial.

I have a 1936 scw Tula serial# 1683. Less than 600 apart is kinda close so I assume mine must have been late in 1936.

Re: New Members, Make your first post here!

As with most Finn rifles, certain years are more valuable than others. Matching bolt serial is prefered but not necessary. It can be used as a bargaining point though. Remember on the M28 and M28/30 the serial is on the left of the barrel and the civil guard number is on the right. Both or either on...

Re: M28 Ski Trooper

Too many variables that affect value. Correct early serial number for a ski trooper, condition of stock and metal, unique features and markings, serial and civil guard numbers matching on all parts? For some reason M28s don't demand the price of all other Finnish rifles but $400-500 would be about r...
