Re: Balkan Mosin Nagant M91
Regarding the import marks, I have a somewhat unusual Balkan M91. It is a 1909 Izhevsk with both Serbian and Romanian heritage. For one, both imperial eagles are fully intact. Second, there is no import mark whatsoever on it that I can find on either the receiver or the end of the barrel.

Re: K31 Rear Sight Leaf
I wish I would have seen this earlier. I’ve already coughed up $80 for one on eBay.

Re: K31 Rear Sight Leaf
Definitely leaning towards it now. A friend has a contact in Switzerland trying to find one but I have no idea what the price range would be or if he’ll even find one. From my research, the K11 and K31 sights differ in that the K11 is graduated from 300-1500 meters while the K31 is 100-1500 meters.

Re: K31 Rear Sight Leaf
Thanks for the tips. I posted elsewhere to no avail. I’ll try contacting some parts dealers and see if they have leftovers not listed on their sites.

Re: K31 Rear Sight Leaf
I saw one in particular on eBay but it is $80 with shipping. That’s an awful lot for a simple sight leaf.

K31 Rear Sight Leaf
I just traded an RC K98 for a Swiss K31. While I’m quite pleased with the K31, it came with an aftermarket rear peep sight and the seller did not have the original. I am trying to find an original sight leaf to restore the rifle to as issued condition but can not find one anywhere. Does anyone have ...

Re: Great War era M91 sling
I looked at Liberty Tree’s selection of slings. Of the options they have I would say your best bet is either the G3 sling like I used or the leather Yugo SKS sling. The G3 sling is much cheaper for what it’s worth.

Re: Great War era M91 sling
Got any pics of it ? I could use a sling for my new 1897 Sestroryetsk. Haven't done any research yet figured it would be hard to find a correct type. TIA

Here are some pics. Hope they help. I bought the sling for $7.50 on Numrich and the repro dog collars on GunBroker for $10.

Re: Great War era M91 sling
I ended up making a fairly correct sling. I combined repro dog collars with a West German G3 sling that I removed the clip from. I know it’s probably sacrilege to put a German sling on a Mosin but it was the closest I could find in dimensions and appearance to the original Imperial Russian slings pl...

Re: Great War era M91 sling
It seems that the leather Yugo slings, be they for the Mausers or the SKS, are the most similar to Great War M91 slings. By pairing a Yugo sling with a standard set of dog collars, you have a close replica of an Imperial Mosin sling.

Re: Great War era M91 sling
I looked at the Lebel slings and in fact have one on my Berthier M1916. They are about as wide as a US 1907 sling which is a bit much for an M91. I took a second glance at the pictures of the original M91 sling on mn.net and it looked almost identical to the green leather Finnish M39 slings except t...

Great War era M91 sling
I recently purchased an unscrubbed Balkan 1909 Izhevsk M91 from Zeebill at a local gun show. According to my research on mosinnagant.net, the correct sling for a Great War Mosin is a 1 inch wide leather strap with a buckle and a button and held to the rifle with two leather dog collars like the late...

Will the Kroil oil damage the finish on the metal or wood?

FYI, this is how the cleaning Rod but appears from the bottom of the stock underneath the rear barrel band.

Re: Gewehr 98 Cleaning Rod won't screw in
Thanks for the quick reply! Problem with removing the action is that the screws seem to be stuck. Also, the barrel and receiver are molded tightly to the stock. I believe that the rifle possibly hasn't been disassembled since the Great War. While I have no proof, I'd be willing to bet that the under...

Gewehr 98 Cleaning Rod won't screw in
In September, I bought a nice mostly matching 1906 Oberndorf Gewehr 98. I have been having trouble getting the cleaning Rod that came with it to screw in so I bought 2 more and neither of them would screw in either. I have concluded now that I probably need to replace the nut that holds the rod in b...

Re: Gewehr 98 Shooting High
Thanks for the quick replies! I knew that it was going to shoot high, I was just really surprised that it shot as high as it did. I figured it would be 12 inches at the most. I'll probably just experiment with different loads until I find one that doesn't go quite as high.

Gewehr 98 Shooting High
A couple weeks ago, I bought a really nice 1906 Mauser Oberndorf Gewehr 98. Everything matches except the bolt and it still has the Langevisier sight. Anyways, I loaded up some 8mm rounds with 150 gr. Hornady Soft Points and I used the closest data I could find to replicate the original WW1 era S Ba...

Re: Gewehr 88/05 Opinions?
Thanks for quick replies! I already reload 8mm and would just use loads lighter than those I use for my K98. Also, wouldn't the 88/05 shoot best with a 150 grain or similar bullet since it would have been sighted with S Ball 8mm instead of the later heavy ball round?
