Looks like a parts gun to me. With that said there are examples of Gew98 receivers that were recycled into K98k configuration

I collect smokeless powder military rifles from about 1886 till the 1950s. Have collected Enfields, then Mosins and Im turning towards Mausers now hopefully will pick up a few Krags along the way. Sounds like its been refinished. Not sure if the Germans did that but I have seen Turk guns that were arsenal reblued. Id pass.

Was the reciever in the white or blued? If not Turked ie no arabic or moon markings $400 seems fair.

I would agree with that. The quality seems a bit better than my 1904 Gew98.Junk Yard Dog wrote:Oh yea, considered the nicest GEW98 rifle the Mauser factory ever made. I scored one of the unissued '09's many years ago, an exceptionally fine rifle, very high build quality. Nice find.

1909 Argentine Mauser Rifle
I bought this one as a gift to myself for Christmas. All matching including the cleaning rod, B-prefix serial number, bore is minty and the action is the smoothest of any 98 Mauser Ive had.

Gew98m is the modernized Gew98m tangent rear sight is the big difference. Many Gew98s were updated. Used by Weimar republic and the Nazis.

Yes. The Minty Argentine 1909s seem to have taken a dip as well. Seen two this year for 500ish. Picked one up for under 500 otd. Hoping for an unmessed with Gew98m and K98 in 2017
