Re: Trying to locate a sling and other small parts

Well, I feel a little silly, but now I know. Thanks for the info :) I wouldnt feel silly about it. Here is some info on the differences: http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinFeatures06.htm. Thank you for the informative link. My Mosin is from 1942, and has the front metal piece, but not the rear one, s...

Trying to locate a sling and other small parts

Hello all, this is in regard to my 91/59 carbine. It didn't come with a sling, and I'd like to locate one. I assume that any Mosin is going to have the same the same sling. That, and one other part - my front sling mount in the handguard has a metal ring/sleeve around it, but the rear one, in the bu...

Re: Tips for cleaning a crusty old Mosin?

Okay great, so I can use brake-kleen or carb cleaner or whatever as a solvent, and clean out the bore in the shower. That's good to know. Is there a particular kind of oil I should use to re-lube it? Also, a confession: I asked about cleaning the wood because I had the rifle sitting on the floor by ...

Tips for cleaning a crusty old Mosin?

So I got this 91/59, and those who saw my previous thread know that I had to take it apart and fix it before I shot it. Well, I noticed that while the bolt was slick and recently serviced, the receiver and all the inside business was atrocious and crusty. It's a real chore to get it all apart, so I ...

Re: My $30 Mosin

Welcome to the forum. You purchased, IMHO, one of the premier Mosins to own. They are beginning to be hard to find. And for $30 it was a steal. I am also impressed that you did your research and then tore into the carbine to find the problem. These Mosins are very simple rifles and easy to diagnose...

Re: My first Mosin Nagant (1947 M44)

Welcome! I just got my first one the other day too, a 91/59. I first fired one about 10 years ago, and like you, once I fired it I had to have one. It just took longer for one to find its way to me. Yeah, I already want a second one as well.

Re: My $30 Mosin

Thank you, Junk Yard Dog, for your info in that post. That's the kind of stuff that makes history fun :) Also a big thank you to everyone who welcomed me to the forum. I'm looking forward to learning a lot more about the Mosin Nagant here. I'm really digging the history of the 91/59. I always wanted...

Re: My $30 Mosin

Here's a couple pics of my Mosin. The black on the butt stock in the photo where I'm firing it is just an elastic band that holds extra rounds, by the way. I'd never do anything to alter this rifle lol! http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h36/Valagaldr/11059915_971551219564077_6029732880726731190_n.jp...

Re: My $30 Mosin

Though I've been a fan of this rifle for years now, I'm just now learning about it and its technical details. On the barrel shank, just behind the rear sight is the Soviet crest, then behind that 1942, then 1891/59, then the serial number, then the arrow in the triangle which I believe means it's an...

My $30 Mosin

Hey all, I'm new here! I've always been into guns, and have been particularly fond of the Mosin Nagant for many years now. I've never owned a gun until the other day, because, well the right one just never popped up. Then, the other day, I went shooting with some friends, and one of them pulls this ...
