Re: do you save your change?
TulaTom, pennies ain't been copper since 1982, they make them out of zink now. Yep. I just pull the 1982 and before pennies. More and more people must be doing it, because the percentage of copper I've been getting lately has shrunk considerably. I know guys that are taking their nickels out as wel...

Re: do you save your change?
I'm terrible about using change in my pocket, so I end up accumulating quite a bit each week. I pull the copper pennies out and then save it in Crown Royal bags until I'm ready to deposit all of it. I use it towards a fishing trip each year.

Very nice, Martin! I'm still new to Mosin Nagants and milsurp collecting in general. I have three refurbs and I'm looking to move on to more collectable pieces. Can you educate me on your thought process on why you chose not to clean this rifle and why you wouldn't shoot it?

That's a great price for the laminate stock ones. The ones I see around here are always heavily electro-penciled. I find them not as aesthetically pleasing for whatever reason.

Re: Two more! Should be done for a while...
My 1937 Tula does not have a cyrillic prefix either. "Cyrillic "alpha prefixes" came into use at Tula in 1937. These consist of two letters followed by a number of four digits or less. The prefixes were apparently assigned at random and changed when number 9,999 was reached. No known ...

Re: I bought something today
Nice rifle, pacanis. Great price too. As desdem12 said, the buttplate looks like a match. The bolt font is off and is forced. How does the bottom of the magazine number look?

Re: HELP! I need an intervention!
pacanis, That 41 Finn is a nice find. Congratulations. You can tell the numbers are force matched on that gun a couple of different ways. The first is that I believe the serial number on the barrel has a prefix to it. I don't see the prefix on the buttplate, magazine floor plate, and bolt. Plus if y...

Re: Big 5 Sporting Goods
MN Fan,
Not sure where you live in Nebraska, but there is a Dunham's in Sioux City, Iowa and one in Yankton, South Dakota. Just call ahead to make sure they have one in stock. They usually only carry 1-5 at a time.

Re: Identification Help
Interesting. I didn't think I'd see a Sestroryetsk part on a refurb. Maybe not as uncommon as I expected. Thanks for clarifying.

Identification Help
I'm still learning as much about the different marks as I can. The arrow is on the cocking knob of a 1931 Tula. I'm wondering if this is a Sestroryetsk mark? That said, the fetchings on the arrow look different than the Sestroryetsk example at the 7.62X54r.net website. The arrow looks to me more lik...

Re: New to Mosin's
I had planned on soaking it, because I wanted to do two at once, but maybe I will do them separately. I'll do what I can to protect the color. I didn't want to give the impression earlier that I planned on altering the shellac on the stock. I just wanted to clean it up a little. I didn't get an answ...

New to Mosin's
I recently bought a refurb from a local sporting goods store and have a few questions I hope you guys might be able to help me with. The rear sight and serial number are orange. As well as a 25 inside a triangle on the barrel shank. I'm concerned that I might damage the color in the degreasing proce...
