Years of Production for the Polish M44

I am trying to determine which is the correct information for the production years of the Polish M44 Carbine. The information on this forum has Polish production for the M44 Carbine at 1951 to 1955. Terence W. Lapin, in his book "The Mosin-Nagant Rifle" has Polish M44 production stated as ...

Some Pictures of the 1937 Tula That Followed Me Home

I have posted some pictures of the 1937 Tula that followed me home. This addition to my collection puts me at four 91-30 Tula's, 1923, 1930, 1937 and 1943. I have three Izhevsk 91-30's, 1929, 1930, and 1938. I have two Izhevsk Model 44's and one Izhevsk Model 38. There is a Polish Model 44 soon to b...

A 1937 Tula Followed Me Home

Today I went to Mills Fleet Farm because of an ad I saw for 91-30 Mosin Nagant rifles priced $89.95. There was only one in the display case, so I asked the sales person if there were any rifles in the back. The answer was yes and if I wanted to see a couple he would bring them out. Twelve rifles lat...

Re: MN M44 Bayonet Removal

MN Fan , Thanks for the offer. Shooting your M38 or any other rifle for that matter would only prove how well that rifle shoots. It is my M44 that I am testing and questioning how well it can shoot. Because bayonet deployed vs folded back against the stock changes the point of impact on the target a...

Re: MN M44 Bayonet Removal

From most of the replys, it is clear I haven't stated clearly enough the reason I would like to remove the bayonet. First. I would like to remove ther bayonet for the purpose of testing for accuracy, how the rifle shoots that way. Most of us are aware the point of impact changes considerably from wh...

Re: MN M44 Bayonet Removal

Jumperwire,

It is with preservation in mind that I want to remove the bayonet in a manner that will not damage the orignial condition of the rifle. If I can't remove the and reinstall it to a condition of "Exactly as original", I won't mess with it.

MN M44 Bayonet Removal

Has anyone succeded in removing the bayonet from a model 44 carbine without ruining the rifle. My M44 bayonet is attached with a screw that is staked on the threaded end. It is so tight I am unable to get it loose. If I was to drill the screw out, can it be replaced? I am just about done free floati...

Re: Loading the 7.62x54R down for Comfort

DOCBOB, I haven't had any problems sizing the 314299 bullet down to .310" or .311" diameter for my 30-06's. I did find the nose of my 314299 bullet can run .303" diameter and that is a bit tight for some true 30 caliber bores. My solution to that problem was to order a special bullet ...

Re: I Scored Again, Big Time For Me - Pictures

I have posted pictures of the two 9130's I purchased yesterday. I have photo's of the barrel marks and the date on the bottom of the receiver tangs. http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa396/Bill39DC/1930IzzyBarrelMarksreduced.jpg http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa396/Bill39DC/ReceiverTang1930Iz...

Re: Two more! Should be done for a while...

I thought two Russian Mosin Nagant's was enough when I purchased two back in November, 2011. Now I have nine. this has to stop sometime, doesn't it.

I Scored Again, Big Time For Me

Today I went to a gun show on set-up afternoon as a member. I purchased two 9130's. One is a 1923 Tula with a 1923 Tula Hex receiver. Very nicely marked and great looking metal as most of the refurbs are. The bore is well frosted but plenty strong enough that it would probably shoot ball ammo fairly...

46 gr. Practice Ammo - Anyone have Experience

I just received 648 rounds of the 46 grain Chech practice ammo. Has anyone had any experience with this light recoil practice ammo?

.311 to .314" diameter cast bullets

For those interested, Montana Bullet Works offers the Lyman 314299 200 gr cast bullet lubed and gas checked in .311" up to .314" diameter. They also offer a couple of Saeco bullets, 160 gr and 180 gr weights. They are not cheap but are a great bullet for the 7.62x54 and the 303 British. A ...

Re: Loading the 7.62x54R down for Comfort

desdem12,

Lyman Cast bullet number 314299 typically drops from the mould at .314" diameter using wheel weights and a little tin. My 91-30 Mosin Nagants all slugged at or near .313" groove diameter, so I simply size and lube in a .314" die after seating the gas check.

Re: Loading the 7.62x54R down for Comfort

MN Fan, When the eyes are no longer what they used to be, a person has to be willing to settle for second or third best. The rule about the front sight being the one to focus on still stands. Then front and rear sight alinement with the target. At my age and condition of the eyes, the front sight is...

Re: Loading the 7.62x54R down for Comfort

Today, 12/18/11, I fired some of the 184 grain FMJ salvaged Yugo bullets using 23.0 grains of surplus WC 820 powder. My batch of WC 820 acts like 2400 and I am hard pressed to tell the difference when comparing the two. So, at much less cost, the WC 820 is the powder of choice for me. This load fire...

Re: Loading the 7.62x54R down for Comfort

desdem12, No offence was taken. I simply thought back about 35 years when I shot the heavy recoiling rifles and didn't seem to mind the recoil. The more I think about it, most of that shooting was off hand and shooting off hand doesn't affect the shoulder as much as bench rest shooting does. Not onl...

Re: Loading the 7.62x54R down for Comfort

desdem12 , You say most are not recoil sensitive. That may be true for most shooters of the carbine style Mosin Nagants. But most are not my age. With the Mosin Nagant model 38 and 44 I see a notable number of shooters on this forum indicate these little rifles do kick like a mule. That statement su...

Re: Loading the 7.62x54R down for Comfort

I found a couple of old Lyman Loading manuals and one of them had some Jacketed bullet data for light loads. There was a listing for a 150 grain jacketed bullet showing 16.0 grains of Unique @ 1740 fps, 12.0 grains of Unique @ 1400 fps and 25.6 grains of 2400 @ 2100 fps. There was a listing for a 22...
